The red housing on those chrome schwinns is really really great. and that maroon miyata is super classy.
All these bikes are swell looking. nice work!

Great thread. I'll have to get out my camera and take some shots of my bikes.

Lotsa reasons. No front fender for balance, reflector riveted on and detracts from the lines, fender too short it should cover the front of the wheel too, & it's my bike and I didn't want it on. I'm a minimalist.

[QUOTE=sekaijin;5756712]This Gios above is my favorite so far, because it shows the clearest transformation from trash to flash. Some of these bikes don't look all that bad in their before pics!
=========================================
The Gios frame was trashed! Brian Baylis painted it for me and he still b****es about how much time it took to get a smooth surface.
I had bought the frame sight unseen and had it sent directly to Brian. I never saw that "before" picture until it was already painted. If I had seen it first I probably would have kept looking for a different frame.
With that said it is really the best old bike I've ever ridden. Might have something to do with it being a perfect fit for me, but I really think they just got the angles right on those.

Before, after tear-down. I received it as a complete bike, but didn't think to take a pic till after I stripped it. Features included crash damage, rust, a heavily corroded top tube, and a cracked head tube. Apparently it was raced hard:
After repair and restoration:

ah, trash to flash, huh? waddabout dis?
Fortunately, Dick Cheney ran over me and then tried to shoot me in the face with his shotgun...the settlement allowed for the stunning restoration.
<edit> of course, it was really my fault...I deserved it, really...</edit>

If I send you a Free Spirit, you think you could do a similar restoration?
