My "mtb" is a GT from 94. I plan on using it as a touring rig now that I don't do offroad anymore.

Motobecane (2009 29er Outcast single speed)...

Before that it was a 2005 Specialized Hardrock and before that a 2007 Gary Fisher Wahoo...

I also had a Haro for a week or two, but sold it.

I honestly had my heart pretty much set on a Giant XTC-2. I sat on a 29er and it was really light, and I can only imagine a 26er would've been lighter. I also liked the componentry used on the XTC-2. Unfortunately, none of the shops in my area or surrounding areas had any in stock, and the wait was going to be months. Nobody even had one for me to sit on and try.

Anyway, I wound up with a 2010 GT Avalanche 1.0, which was my original choice to begin with when I started searching for a new, reasonably priced mountain bike. I'm real happy with it.

I'm not all that surprised by the lack of giant owners.

I'd been away from bikes for 22 years. I had never heard of Giant until recently.

I just picked up a 2010 Novara Ponderosa 29 two weeks ago. Slapped some shimano 520 spd's on last night. Went out to Avalon (patapsco state park, MD) today and had a freakin' blast. Near the end of the ride we found a bridge suitable for jumping and cooled down before finishing out the ride.

My Jamis Aurora is going to be collecting dust this summer. Tis' a shame.

I tested out a lot of bikes in the $800 dollar area before I bought my bike. I tested 19.5"-20.5" frame sizes and this is how I felt:

In that price range, components were all very similar.
Treks looked good but felt very upright and very small
Gary fishers looked silly as heck but felt much better.. more stretched out
Giants looked great, felt really good, handled really well

This is just how I felt with my specific body size and only one year of riding under my belt

I ride a Giant and probably will in the future

still never tried a spech though!
