a head band under the helmet? I was hoping there was magical trick where I would say "ahhhhh......" brain churning

Not safe for work
I like the bandana best because it's easy to wash and dry.
Besides, headbands make me want to sing Olivia Newton John's "Physical". No one wants that.

halo sweat band. doubles as a light-duty ear warmer when it's 50 degrees or so.

sweat in eye... what to do
Be careful. My worst crash was when I tried to wipe off some sweat in my eyes with the back of my glove I ran off the road and got some stinging abrasions and a cut on my upper lip requiring sutures. I thought I might have to lose my moustache.
Now I always ride with some kind of headwear, usually a terry cloth sweat band in the summer, or when cooler with my thin balaclava with the bottom edge folded over the top of my heat to make a skull cap. Yesterday morning it was 72 degrees and when I couldn't find my sweat band I used a folded paper towel on my forehead held in place by my helmet and that worked fine.

Head sweats. Keeps sweat out of your eyes, and keeps your scalp from getting sunburned.

My helmet keeps sweat out of my eyes. Occasionally, I use the terry cloth area of my gloves to wipe it too.
Otherwise, can't you just ignore it? Better yet, REVEL in it.

When the sweat is getting into my eyes I give my forehead and eyes a shot from my water bottle. On hot and muggy days I carry an extra bottle just to douse my head.

As for sweat, my gloves have a nice terry cloth strip along the index finger down to the thumb and I just wipe my brow every once in a while. Occasional spritz of water from the old bottle helps, too.

Headsweats or other Coolmax(tm) things work well for people who don't sweat buckets when the temp is over 45 degrees.
The Gutr or Halo is a good option for those of us who do, but even those can be a bit on the uncomfortable side for a long ride. I find the silicone strip to be annoying after 4 - 5 hours, but for a commute it's fine.
Personally, a cycling cap is the way to go. With the visor down in front, sweat drips off the leading edge of the brim instead of down into my face and/or onto my sunglasses. Plus, it keeps me from sunburning my head.

I wear a skullcap under my helmet. I also use it to keep from getting sunburn spots on my bald head in the shape of my helmet vents.

I put a sweatband immediately over my eyebrows.. Don't notice much of a problem while riding. But, I sure hate to stop.. As soon as the wind stops wicking my forehead, it's like a dam bursts...
