Since I am a not-very-fast female, this is the only thread in which I can post it: HTFU Of course, I don't shave my face, which I am sure is a more sensitive area to shave. For your legs, though...I shave in the shower, with soap and a cheapo razor. Year round. Yes, there is occasional razor burn, and yes, shaving cream is nice. It always makes me smile that many of you are fast, strong riders who will ride really tough hills or distances, but shaving your legs is a big deal.

I'm not criticizing, it's just funny. And btw, since I started cycling a lot I have decided I like the look of a guy with shaved legs...

I shave my legs because I play competitive tennis, massages aren't very fun with hairy legs, nor is taking off athletic tape. Just shave who cares, especially if you've got some nice legs. Show them off!

As a more serious response, since the question was asked in hopes of a real answer - why not try waxing the first time? (The hair has to be at least 1/4" for waxing to work well) Yes, it stings quite a bit, but it lasts a lot longer than shaving: as much as six weeks. If I didn't shave over the winter, I would wax at the beginning of the season, then shave after the hair starts to grow again. But don't try waxing yourself! Go to a professional salon: it's much faster, and they try to make it less painful. It's a bit pricey, but I think it's worth it.

Just make sure you use some sort of lubricant (soap, oil, foam, cream). A teammate of mine finally caved in and shaved when we were at junior nationals because he was the only one there with hairy legs (I wonder how he felt when he went back to high school football practice a month later). He came out of the bathroom with his legs red as a lobster. Turns out he shaved his face with an electric and didn't know how to use a blade, so he just got his legs wet and shaved them.

On a side note, I know VL is gone, but he got me curious about those Baxter shavers. I have a very sensitive face (rosacea) and can only use my Gilette or Schick blades for 3 or 4 shaves before I have to replace them because the moment they dull just a little, they tear me up. Some blades get tossed after the first shave because they are just duds from the factory. Those cartridges have gotten very expensive lately, so a quality blade sounds appealing. I couldn't find a link to replacement blades for that Baxter one, but it mentioned Derby blades. Does any Derby blade fit that shaver?

Looks like it uses standard DE blades, so any DE blade would probably work with it.

You must think that other people are impressed by your hairless muscularity and think girls think guys who shave their legs are sexy...because there is no practical reason to do it unless you get deep tissue massages after every ride.

Good as any. I'd be frankly surprised if anyone even notices - would they even have time after checking out the frame and ogling the components, reading the adverts on the team kit, and keeping an eagle eye on whether we hog the lane or cower at the gutter? Or in my case they have to get over the visual shock of my bike itself

It's also easier to apply sunscreen and easier to clean road rash after a crash. I still don't shave since my sensitive skin makes constant razor burn that's less desirable than occasional road rash, but there are more reasons for it than deep tissue massage.
