Older 80's Trek With Campy Bits
Picked this up not to long ago. Trying to figure out what model it is. I have went to the vintage trek brochure website and what I have found does not make sense. The serial number on the bb is 157426. The bike has pretty much full Campy right down to the headset. Tubing is Reynolds 531c. I think it may be a 770, but I cannot find this color/sticker combo to match up with anything. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Go to vintagetrek.com. It tells you how to determine what you have based on the serial number.

I could be wrong but I think the CampI Chorus group was added to an earlier model Trek. The Chorus group came out in '88 but that frame seems older to me.
What kind of shifters are on it? the Synchro or just plain friction? Concentrate on the serial number and the color ignore the group when serching vintage trek.

The Pro series with the internal chain stay routing would be about 1986 IIRC. An all 531 frame would be the 7xx model.
Edit: you're right that the color is not right for what it appears. The tubing decals may be suspect as well, then. Hard to tell.

That one is going to be a challenge to pin down, exactly. I found an '86 or...pro series this summer with campy derailleurs and chainring, 531 and modolo brakes. Very nice bike but when looking at all the details and even with the plethora of info on the vintage site, it was still difficult to pin the year. But really, it's about the bike, components and condition, isnt it? The bike I found was in the 19lb class. Super nice.

Yup. I had written down the wrong number. The serial number is actually 157246. I found this in the serial number look up and it says it is a 760s. Not sure what the s stands for.

Frame was made 11/20/1984. So I believe it would be a 1985 model.

If that is the case then the Chorus group was added later. when you get to cleaning and tuning this check the brake pads, these on the back brake are in wrong. the open end of the holder should point towards the rear of the bike.

Calling JohnDThompson.................
He's the resident vintage Trek specialist......
The decals look circa 1986 or 1987. What's the headbadge look like? Could be a FrankenTrek...I have one of those:

1984 Trek 760 NOS but repainted in 1988 by Trek factory after frame failed to sell from Trek dealer (probably because of the original purple color). Now it's the reddest red just shy of a Ferrari. Serial number 146272 which on the Vintage Trek site lists this as a 58 cm manufactured on 9/13/84

A clue to help with the catalog confusion.

Constant tinkerer
1986 according to the Vintage Trek site, the year the 850 came in pink with white. But the 86 catalog doesn't say anything about using 531 All Terrain tubing. If that sticker is accurate, I think that's a really cool find! I never knew Trek made MTBs with 531 tubing.
