Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yeah, I'm a little bit "blue crazy". That "light" is actually a CONTOUR ROAM2 (HD Camera).

You can include the saddle, seat post clamp, valve covers, chainrings, pedal, pump and skewer lock heads as well. lolz

Well I never really thought about that since it was never a concern for me. It's a common velcro strap so I guess I'll find out sooner or later.

Dayuuum, that's a great-looking bike! Why is it that most of the ones I see offered for sale, are either boring black, or white....or black & white (as if we lived in a monochrome universe!)- Never a beautiful blue?!

Don't you have to have a different clamp for the oversized saddle rails?

If so, they didn't say anything. Don't know why you'd need them though, it seems to clamp just fine.

You do with certain seat posts. The stock cdale seat post will support those rails. Ritchey seat posts require a larger clamp.

Tried that once with a Toupe, it actually did more wear to the rails than just leaving them bare. Plus the seat moved around like crazy with tape on there.

So, I see adjustment for seat height and fore/aft relative to the pedals, as well as handlebar height, but how do you increase handlebar reach? That seams to be set - so if you need longer reach, you're stuck moving the seat way back which screws up your pedal relationship. I've been wanting to get a spin bike for home but it seems like none of them would accommodate my longer reach needs.

How much reach do you need? This particular spin bike seems to be geared[no pun intended] more towards larger people. A short person would be in trouble, as there is no way to reduce the reach.... but as long as you can reach the bars, it shouldn't be a problem, because there is a large area on the bars, from the "stem", forward, that you can grip. In all the reviews on Amazon, I've rad a few of shorter people complaining...but not one of a larger person saying that reach was a problem. (You really think they would have made a provision to adjust the distance of the bars...it would have been easy enough. Strangely, when I was looking around before buying this, I don't think I came across one bike that had such a provision. Also, remember, that since it is a stationary bike, being aero isn't a concern....so your position isn't as important- although I do tend to try and replicate the fit I have on my road bike.)

If you'd like any measurements from the bike, I'd be happy to oblige.

Now if I could just figure out why it is that my cycling has improved more in the < one month I've owned this thing, than in the previous 8 months of actual cycling..... I just don't get it! Riding this 1/2hr-1 hr. a day, 5-6 days a week seems to have done me more good than 3 or 4 2hr. actual bike rides a week. (Maybe because I go harder on this, and the fact that there is no coasting?)

The CycleOps spin bikes have this adjustment, but they are pricey new. I scrounged Craig's List for quite a while and finally found one that looked like new but had been sitting out in this guys garage for some time (judging by the dust). The odometer read ~560 total miles. Picked it up for $700.

Celebrated the 1 year anniversary of my bike over the weekend with a complete teardown, clean/degrease & rebuild with some upgrades:

Rival FD, Force RD & crankset, Jagwire Racer cables & Fizik Microtex in black (changed from white).

Went from a 52/36 to 53/39.

The only reason I went with a Rival FD instead of Force is I got it as a free warranty replacement for a broken Apex FD.

Changed to black bar tape because I was sick of always cleaning the white.

Thanks!

I like the cables so far... Not difficult to install at all... However, the housing seems a little firmer to me than others I've used, so you have to pre-bend them prior to install.

Also, I put a dab of light grease on the tips of the cables before running them through the housing. Some say it's not needed, but it doesn't hurt.

Make sure you have proper brake cable cutters beforehand - the teflon cables are impossible to cut otherwise.

Stunning!

Starting to get all the gear for my upcoming bike build. Frame done, wheels done, this weekend ordered Ritchey WCS Logic Carbon Curve bars, C260 Stem, and some Lizarskins 3.2 Tape. All that's left now will be component group, seatpost, assorted hardware, tires, tubes. But will need to get off my butt and list the current bike for sale before I can order that stuff!
