That poppy pic made me want to sing "THE HILLS ARE A-LIVE! WITH THE SOUND OF MU-SIC!"

The fisheye lens effect also made me think of those pictures from the surface of Venus, made by those Russian Venera probes all those many decades ago.

I have a thing for tulips. Kodachrome slides were taken near Lisse, NL in 1988 or 89 when we took a family bike ride through the Tulip growing area. These are from scans of the pictures that were printed from the slides so a lot of detail has been lost in the reproductions.

If you aren't familiar with a journalist named Alan Snell, you may want to get to know him. He moved out to the Vegas area from Tampa and started working at one of the Vegas area newspapers about 4 months ago. He was instrumental in pushing the bay area counties into a safer and bike friendly area than anyone before him. I've known Alan for several years and used to ride with him and he's also a great guy to get to know. He's a terrific advocate for cycling and will push the right buttons to get things done. Our loss is definitely your gain.

This one's pretty trick. It's someone's backside from the back cover of an Adventure Cycle Tour pamphlet. What's trick about it is ... it's my sorry backside.

BTW ... AC's Cycle Washington is a great tour.

Thank you for the heads up. Many of us are surprised that the bike community doesn't get more attention in the press. We do a ton of volunteering and have numerous rides for health charities. I will try to find him via Google. If you have any hints on contacting him, let me know.

Lol ... this is the spot, right?

I was there for a professional conference, and that loop was maybe a mile or two from our hotel. I couldn't resist!

As a matter of fact, I think this years conference is in Las Vegas again, so I'll give you a shout.

This is somewhere near Devil's Tower, I think:

It's photo of the day, right? So I can get away with some non-cycling content?
I am embracing retro-hip bad-quality photography that looks good anyway, sorta kinda. I bought a used micro 4/3 camera and a pinhole lens. It arrived yesterday.
With the right model -- my sweet wife-- I think maybe I can make it work.

Yup. The ride across South Dakota was mind-numbingly flat in a lot of places. But not without it's charms.

Like the town of Interior, right at the edge of the Badlands. Our accommodations for the night were to be at a KOA about 3 miles up the road. But since it was a very hot day and I like to chat up the locals, my friend and I took a detour before arriving in camp to do some elbow exercises at the local saloon. This one ... the Wagon Wheel ... looked promising.

Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure this was the ONLY saloon in town. Anyway, so we walk in, sit down, and have a couple cold ones. The bartender is a friendly guy and we have a nice chat about whatever seemed appropriate. We were there about an hour when he eyes me over and asks:

"So ... you want to ride Radar?"

Kind of an odd question. I answer with another.

"Who or what is Radar?"

<to be continued>

I was window shopping in SLO last year, and saw the kind of plastic pseudo-SLR camera we used to get for free with a magazine subscription ... and they were selling for $40! Whoa.

But I get the attraction ... they take kinda kool retro-hip photos.

And hey ... non cycling content works fine ... especially with that kind of subject.
