Ready for the Texas Chainring Massacre this weekend. Pake C'Mute with Velocity A23's, Conti 32mm X-Kings, fenders and frame bag.
the DT waterbottle barely fits under the frame bag, so the plan is to fill both bottles and drink from teh ST bottle first. when it's empty, switch them. the frame bag is there to hold my snacks and layers of clothing that I have to take off as the day warms up.

Looks familiar!
When I ride gravel as opposed to commuting: Stan's Iron Cross wheelset, Ritchey Speedmax 32mm tires. I also have a CX70 double crank/FD, BB7s and 105 shifters. 46T is great for most commutes - I rarely use the FD.
I quite like the stock dropbars on the Jake. At first I wasn't sure but I've found I use them a lot - the curved shape gives a lot of easy small adjustment points in your grip.

I had a blast. I rode slowly.
things I did right- brought enough food and water. set up my bike up pretty well.
things I did wrong that really slowed me down: too much clothes, had to stop a few times to strip off layers. tire choice and pressure it critical! i had 32mm CX tires at about 65 psi and it was way too much for my 160 pound self. I should have chosen some fatter tires or just rode my rigid 29" mountain bike. my tires just sunk down into a lot of the muckier stuff, but it was nice and fast when I found a dry, relatively smooth section. I dropped my pressure to about half at one point and felt much better. I think the fenders were excessive too.

Her's mine after a first shake out ride, actually more like a cruise around. Will take it around Salem Lake this week for it's first dirt/gravel romp.

I will have to shorten the brake cables as they are a bit long and make the braking feel mushy.
I had to clean her up good and replace the brake pads and saddle. The stem was too long so a Ritchey took it's place. The drive side crank has a problem with it's pedal threads so had to cleaned up by re-tapping. Will have to keep an eye out for another crankset.Tires are the original Kenda kwicks 30cc in great shape but some 32cc specialized will take their place. Grip and tread pattern are very much the same.
Plans for this include trail/gravel use and comuting later on.

can you tell me what the deal is with the seat tube water bottle bosses? Are their spacers on there? I've seen them on the trek marketing shots as well but they only ever show them on the seat tube.

You find the OEM garmin mount to sufficient when CX'n?
Mine would move around a bit when on a rough course/terrain.
I ended up buying a proper mount, Barfly 2.0.
Now it doesn't move unless I want it to.

You are right about the stem. I am waiting on a black one. I was wondering about the water bottle bosses too, haven't taken them off yet but will.

I have had no issues with the garmin moving around, much less coming off.

They are spacers and I don't know their purpose. I took them off and put the screws back in.

I wonder why trek is doing this. FD clearance is the most logical, but the bosses seem high enough on most examples that it wouldn't be an issue.
