Repent your hipsterish ways! Confess for the good of your soul!
This came up in another thread, but as much as we love to make fun of hipsters (who doesn't like shooting rhetorical zombies over and over again? It's a favorite pastime of mine), many of us are afflicted with hipsterish ways and habits. For instance, there is the problem of the bicycles:
and:
but it goes even further. There is, as another frightening example, my current lp collection (pictured is about 2/3 of it, I'm embarrassed to show the entire thing):
And to exacerbate the problem even further, there's the multiple beer growlers:
As partial recompense, here are some models of gum disease:
I've probably sinned somehow, as have the rest of you. Confess, it's good for the soul. Moloch may still toss you into a lake of fire, but you'll no doubt feel better as you roast.

I bought a titanium bike at one point, used of course, but for no compelling good reason other than a slammin price.

how is titanium hipster-ish? its basically steel that you never have to worry about rusting and that will last forever as long as you dont crash it.
there are many many compelling reasons to go titanium.

I play an acoustic guitar. I don't know of that is hipsterish or not. Is not knowing hipsterish? I thought hipsters knew they were hipsters.

Riding fixed makes you a hipster? I have a Redline 9.2.5 that has fenders and a rack, it is usually fixed gear, has a flip-flop hub though...

I confess! I rock a mustache and beard, listen to oldies rock through my vintage receiver (Marantz 2275) and speakers (Pioneer HPM-100), exclusively ride bicycles (especially my late 80s road bike with drillium), wear a shemag scarf when it's cold outside, have a fairly regular meditation practice, love vintage cars (70-80s imports), and just sold a single speed bicycle for financial reasons. Luckily, there is not a single fiber of my 30 year old body that I consider to be hipster. In fact, I'd say when it comes to personality and how I conduct myself, I'm the antithesis of a hipster. This becomes readily apparent when people meet or get to know me

Whatever warms your heart. ...
My musical tastes are fairly wide, but my sweet spot is [J S] Bach to Rach[maninov].
My favorite bikes are from the 1960s - 1980s, with no plans to replace any over the coming years.
Cars: 1996 Audi A4 and 2001 VW Passat wagon, with no plans to replace either over the coming several years.
Phone: Pantech flip-phone, although I do carry a small laptop computer when I want Internet access away from home.
I don't like fixed gear, although I might consider the re-introduced Sturmey 3-speed, and I definitely don't like single speed -- I really like my gears!

I'm 52 years old and I like old stuff, even stuff that's older than me.
Most everything I buy is pre owned
I don't have a job or rich parents.
My bicycle "area" is a mess right now.
>>out of shape<<
If it feels good......do it.

I used to hate on hipsters until I actually focused on what they are into, and realized that I like most of it: steel bikes, microbrews, DIY music, anachronistic fashion. If it's possible for a 48 year old to be a hipster, then I guess I am.

Hackster
Noun, a subculture of hipsters that enjoy working with mechanics such as obscure 80's cars, bycicles, motorcycles, etc.
"Did you see that hackster just put his fixie on his slammed volvo's roof rack?"
"Yeah, and he was really ham-fisting when he lowered that volvo too!"

Craft beer? CHeck.
record collection? CHeck.
Bikes? Check, obviously. (No Fixies, tho).
Thick glasses? Check.
Facial hair? Check.
Guitar? Banjo? Ukulele? Check, check, check.
If I only wore skinny jeans and plaid, I'd be a shoe-in. Does it matter if you've been into this stuff since the 80's?

My son and daughter tell me I am an "original Hipster". I still spin vinyl, only ride the bikes I grew up with (that is why I bought top of the line, to ride forever) and don't care much for clawing my way to the top. I tell them, today's Hipsters, are yesterday's Hippie wannabe's. They don't have the courage to strike out in a beat up microbus and live dollar to dollar, job to job as they travel the country.
One redeeming quality, today's Hipsters have enough sense not to engage in the highly stupid "free love" sexual practice of yesterday's Hippies.
