1992 Elevation 8000 and 1991 Ridge Runner Japan

Picked up the Miyata Bug from Forum Member and Miyata Expert "Elev12K".

My 1992 Elevation 8000 and 1991 Ridge Runner for Japanese Market. Both started out as bare frames and slowly built up.

My autumn project on the first test to the nearby village Lerkil in Halland, Sweden.
The bike was a complete wreck and with some hours in the garage it looks like this.
The frame is a Miyata 1000.

Here is a 310 that I picked up for $30. Not my size but couldn't pass it up for that price. I rehabbed it and sold it. It was in excellent shape.

Picked up this Koga Miyata Randonneur-Extra 1987 size 54 yesterday from the internet. It is in excellent condition, the paintwork on the frame bears a few minor scratches and all-in-all the bike does not seem used much at all. The Randonneur-Extra was the top of the range touring model with the triple butted spline reinforced tubes and Shimano 600 group. Frame geometry is exactly the same as that of the Miyata 1000LT, does anybody know if these frames are the same? Seatpost is at its maximum height so I guess the bike is on the small side for me (1.74m) but it is still ok. The ride is very, very smooth! It still has the original Wolber canvas tires mounted btw!

Nice looking bike. Google "Miyata serial number" and you will find the answer - first letter of s/n found on bb is the key to the year. Let us know what you find.

Beautiful. The resident expert is definitely Mel, but I'll answer insofar as I'm able. I do think these are basically the same as 1000s, though with some changes. The paint is a lot nicer on the kogas. My traveler is essentially a 1000 with a few added touches like a chain guard and plates on the head tube to prevent rub. Later the BB's were raised slightly to improve them off road...I'm not sure if that's true in 87'.

I'm not sure about 87', but the frames in 91' of the tourers are all basically the same - the main difference is paint and components. I think the world traveler and rando had 3 bottle braze ons instead of two. All are triple splined.
