I think the flaw here is assuming that some of those bikes get designed. I'd guess that a lot are opportunistic. "Let's slap track ends on something, sell a few hundred, and that way we'll have a track bike in our catalogue."

I've seen a few Japanese bikes with pretty long TT's given their ST length. Longer and more stretched out than road frames. I had a frame like this. It didn't really fit me because I have a shorter than average torso, and when I sold it, lots of interest in the frame, but as soon as people inquired about the geometry, people lost interest because the TT length wasn't what they would anticipate based on the ST length, based most likely, what they ride on the road. I'm sure this is a somewhat of a hurdle for manufacturers to overcome.

Nice! That is a long TT. In my younger days I used to ride 130-140mm stems to compensate for standard frame sizes, but now I look for shorter TTs and taller HTs. I'm no longer very flexible.
What's wrong with the Thompson seatpost? It's hard to find a better clamp mechanism.
Still Thompson?

I will say, as much as I like Thomson stuff, the setback version is one of the ugliest posts IMO. They were supposed to be working on an alt version with the seatback at the clamp, but the prototypes don't look so good either. Too bad because the clamp is fantastic.

They were probably worried the long top tube would make it hard to do leg over the bar skidz

I often use a set-back post because the clampable area on the saddle I use is way towards the back of the rails.. The seat tube angle on the Dixie Flyer made it so I didn't have to do that..

I completed my Torelli below about 2 months ago in the dead of the winter and have finally been out to Kissena about 4 times so far. Cold, windy rides for sure, but I couldn't wait any longer. She rides great, although Kissena is one bumpy track, and the fit is very good for me. I haven't actually raced her, and I'm not sure if I will. We'll see.
Her tubing is also Columbus SL, which is light and agile and my favorite. It has a mix of old and new parts, but it all works together well. The only thing I would do differently is go for gum wall tires instead of black walls, but that's for the future.

Welcome!
Not personally a fan of the white wheels but very nice bike! Impressed you were able to get an Avanti, as they are hard to come by outside Oceania...

So, apparently Hell has frozen over because I now riding a steel bike
This is my new Custom Snyder Cycles frame:
Snyder Cycles - Handmade Bicycles
Seth was really really cool about accommodating me and my desire for a custom geometry and other concerns. He delivered on time and on budget. He even did the powdercoat job in-house. Seth is a cool guy and also a track racer. We met at DLV back in 2009 or so.
I rode and raced it for the first time today. The geometry feels really good. Really neutral. Similar to the Dolan DF3 and my Tiemeyers mainly because of the 74 deg head tube angle, 30mm offset fork, and long wheel base that they all share. Bumps were noticably less harsh than with my Tiemeyer. The bump/vibration dampening felt like my Dolan DF3. I did a few cautious (80%) standing starts and I felt no flex. Seth said that he took my size and strength into consideration with his tube choices. Seems to be working. I'll do some 100% standing starts this weekend. Hopefully I won't need to use chain tensioners.
I'm very happy with this bike.

Riding daily on a bumpy track. I went overkill on the seat post. I wanted a double clamp. Seth decided to extend the clamp area taller to accommodate a 2nd clamp. So, the first clamp is a normal clamp with a lip. Seth machined off the lip for the lower clamp which floats freely when loose. There's no way in hell this seatpost will ever slip. The best part is that these are replaceable.

Would be interesting to see your position on the bike, given the bespoke geometry. And even maybe a video from the top tube/seat tube junction to look for any visible flex, a bit like that clip of Pervis on his Japanese Keirin bike..

3T Scatto bars on a steel frame must be a world first

Also, I actually accounted for the 2cm setback post. I bought the wrong one. When I get the right one, the seatpost will clamp at the middle of the rails.
I should borrow a GoPro and try that!

Of all the bikes I own this one is my favourite. Sorry I don't have a standing still photo of it.

How heavy is it? The frame and uncut fork are 2.77kg/6.11lbs. It's not light, but for an XXL frame it's good! It feels like a 57cm BT felt when I lifted one...or the 57cm 2010 Felt TK1 (before the revamped UCI legal fork change which is lighter).
I'll put on race wheels and weigh it this week.

As a guy who has "been to the mountain top" and owned a lot of the super high-end bikes (LOOK 496, Felt TK1, Dolan DF3) I never thought I'd be this pleased with a steel bike.

Very nice. Glad you like steel. I think more would enjoy it, if they tried it, but I understand the reluctance of the younger guys, because it's not what they grew up with. It's to much like "dads bike".
My steel pista weighs in at exactly 20 lbs, although I wasn't going for a weight weenie. I could probably take another pound off with lighter wheels and tubulars...
Enjoy!

I'm headed out now to have it weight with race kit. Stay tuned...

You might turn this forum upside down with that news!
