That's why it is surprising, even if it is from the '60s, I don't recall seeing any in that fashion. It does stump one.

On UK ebay, one might see some of those kinds of bikes among other websites.

This "Pope" branded bike, it be from the USA or UK has that top tube in that manner. When I see those; I think really old bike.

Funny how it's exactly the opposite of modern bikes, which have lower tubes to reduce standover height with higher stack. What could have been the reason for it?

Way back, motorbikes were more like bikes, some of these photos make me think those tubes were made in a way they could accommodate a gas tank if they had to. I like the appearances of some of the old bikes and comparing them to the old motorcycles/motorbikes; they seem similar.

Check out how this motorbike has the gas tank, having said this, the below frame I'm sure is specific to a motorbike but nonetheless, one can see the similarities; I guess the top tube may have been aerodynamic:

I think it is that way from the factory. Look at the relationship between the top of the seat tube and the head tube. In order for that top tube to be straight, it would have to be a sloping top tube, which to me would be more surprising than an intentionally bent one. Also. the joint of the top tube to the seat tube does not appear to be bent, which it would have to be if the top tube were bent by accident.

I think it's a way for the manufacturer to make a smaller frame size (regarding seat height) without having to make a smaller head tube or change the joints in that area. Just shorten the seat tube and bend the top tube down to meet it.

It certainly did cross my mind that if one bent one tube, it could affect the rest of the geometry on the bike; so we do indeed have a mystery. If I may say so, if one is really curious; there are retro-bike forums in the UK where one might be able to ask.

Optimistic pricing, but seller also suffers from the common ailment of not knowing how to operate a tape measure - he claims it is a 58cm, but it is obviously a 62 or 63.

You're missing the $6300 worth of cocaine stuffed into the seat tube.

This surely is a nice bike, what is odd and perhaps some have seen this happen before, is that this bike is listed on different Craig's Lists!.

Vintage Motobecane Bike - Made in France

Motobecane Vintage French Bike

Vintage Motobecane Steel Frame - Made in France

So what's up with this? It looks like a Motobecane Grand Touring but for whatever it is; if a buyer was interested, it doesn't seem fair to the buyer. Is it up still after all this time? Maybe somehow, the seller has one and is trying it out on these different lists. And there may well be other lists. I first noted this about last weekend; so enough time perhaps has gone by now to call this.

Not at all surprising to me. Especially since the three sites are relatively near each other. Now, if it was advertised in San Diego and Augusta, Maine, that would be a different story.

They want $30, but that's actually worth a negative amount of money.

I'm wondering if the bike is in Bloomington.

There are some people who travel, and are willing to deliver.

However, Bloomington is only 380 miles away from Madison, and 642 miles away from Minneapolis, MN

I'll travel some distance, but not 600 miles for a $200 bicycle.

I'd call this just SPAM.

And if the seller is serious, then they'd say where the bike is and how they anticipate to get it to the buyer.

That is a BARGAIN!

Look up Schwinn Apple Krate and Orange Krate (apparently Schwinn also has repros). Those with the 5-speed shift levers can command a good price.

1957 raleigh sports 3spd w/generator hub - $75 (Eugene)

Frame measures 20" seat tube, 21.5" top tube. The bike is complete except for a saddle. I disassembled this bike 9 years ago with the plan of restoring it which obviiusly never happened.

No kidding. That whole ad reads like some ****** stole the bike, kept the parts he needed/wanted and is now trying to flog the remains.
