I'm up to 65 km of walking so far this year. Mostly commuting or running errands.

This is looking toward Salamanca, where I walk once or twice a week ...

Been doing a bunch of walking over the last three days. I leave for the PNW tomorrow and I had things that needed to get done in anticipation of that.

-Thursday, Sports-Tracker for Windows Phone 8.1 claimed 2.45 miles.
-Friday, Google Fit on Android 5.1.1 phone calculated 5 miles.
-Today, Google Fit said 7.7 miles, while Endomondo (free) on the same device (running concurrent) calculated 8.1 miles.

I feel like I haven't done much walking, and yet I ended this January with 72 km ... compared with last January where I walked 56 km.

Lots of lunchtime errands.

Lately, I've been apt-sitting for a friend in Cambridge MA, and commuting up to Newburyport for work.

I usually live in ME, where a car-free commute is a 10 mi bike ride to a bus station, bus south to Newburyport, 3 mi bike ride to work.

Past couple of mornings, it's been a 2-3 mi bike ride to the train station, commuter train to work. The mild winter has continued through my stay down south and has made these commutes actually very enjoyable.

Nice that it worked out so you had mild weather during your apartment sitting.

We spent the day cycling around town, exploring, and finished up with 45.02 km, after cycling to and from dinner and a rather impressive sound and lasar show depicting the story of the shipwreck of the Loch Ard.

Not logging the miles, but I've spent the past five days traipsing the downtown district of Gresham OR.

Scheduled to some bus and light rail work in Portland tomorrow.

Lots of walking this past week ... I've been off work 3 days because of an office move, so I walk.

Have you relocated? I guess I didn't know that was in the cards.

Back to walking to and from uni again!

Yesterday I covered 5 km ... to the bus, from the bus to uni, from uni to work ...

Also, as of the end of February, 2 months into the year, I'm at 148.75 km walking. I'm a little bit off the pace ... if I keep this up, I would only hit 892 km for the year, but I've been focusing more on cycling so as winter comes on, there may be more walking.

I've been busy walking and cycling all month ... how about you?

My course schedule had me walking from the first bus stop in the city down to the university in the morning one day a week, and then from the university up to the road where I can catch my bus on the way home one day a week. It's approx. 1.7 km from bus stop to university or vv.

Haven't been putting in the miles like I thought I would after my trip to OR for my pup, due to wife being on medical leave (gall bladder surgery). Her first day back to work is today, but I've been doing house and yard work... maybe a quick jaunt to the store in a wee bit.

Just did a quick comparison and I'm about 25 km ahead of where I was at this time last year with my walking.

April 5, 2015 - 236.41 km
April 5, 2016 - 261.25 km

I did a long walk at lunch today ... 5.4 km. Won't be able to do our usual evening walk, so I figured I'd better get out there.

Apparently today (in North America ... Wednesday 6 April) is National Walking Day ... so get out there and walk!

I don't know about any of the rest of you, but I walked between university and the street where I can catch my bus home today ... 2.2 km. Lovely autumn day, lovely walk.

Then Rowan and I walked to the beach and back.

Forgot to post about last Saturday . 'Worked' the dog on a big loop to WM and Walgreen's- ~5 miles. Pup was tired afterwards- he drank some water and then just plopped over and didn't budge for like an hour.

Today walked to the store twice, so ~1.5 miles combined. And I mowed the lawn, so that has to count as some kind of mileage right there

Nice long walk from an appointment I had at one end of town to work, in the middle of town this morning.

Not getting much riding due to extended winter/early spring bad weather, so I walked to the bank at lunch and later got off the bus early and walked a longer route home: all told about 3 km - not much, really.

I rode to the VA Medical Center (and back) for my semi-annual (fasting) blood test. It's 13.3 miles each direction: flat Florida terrain, one road all the way -- some sections with a "real" bike lane, others with what passes for a bike lane (road shoulder or whatever), and some where I "shared" the lane (double or single) with traffic. I left a little before 8AM, just as "rush hour" ended, and traffic was fine (amount and behavior). 1h:03m going, 1h:01 returning. People are always surprised that a 64 year-old guy does it car-free; I'm not surprised... they're almost all obese (and health-care workers, to boot). As they taught us in the US Army: "Lead by example!"

Lots more walking this week, but I'll highlight Friday's ...

Friday I had to attend a work-related course, but had to make a dash to the University in the middle of the course to attend a University tutorial. Yeah, life is busy and complicated.

The work-related course was in a location that was slightly closer to the University, but a location which turned out to be awkwardly located when it came to buses. I looked up the bus options for getting to and from the University and discovered that it would take me roughly half an hour each way ... I also knew that it would take me half an hour each way to walk the distance. I opted to walk.

Twenty six mile loop with a brief stop at the bank/PO on Friday. Getting ready to head out for a metric century[solo] today, first one on my new road bike.

Saturday I arranged to meet my son and his best man downtown to pick out a wedding suit for him. It would be an elegant black suit that could be worn for interviews and office jobs as well. Since the recommended suit place is near my old office site (same organization I am still with) I was able to bike down and lock my bike and helmet in the secure employee bike compound - basically a chain link fence enclosure with a magnetic lock - and walk the last few blocks. I was early and went into the hipsterish cafe across the street from the tailor shop for a scone and coffee, and then sat on the bench in the doorway, and there was quite a good female busker just across the narrow street, singing country and playing (pretty basic) banjo sitting cross-legged on the sidewalk.

The suit buying experience was pretty good and after that the three of us went back to the coffee shop. We were inside, but near the open doors, and by now the busker girl had been joined by a guitar playing partner, and they were singing harmony on some old Hank Williams tunes - Your Cheatin' Heart, Hey, Hey, Good Lookin', etc. and she also played a bit of Kazoo and they did the Kinks' Sunny Afternoon too. Very well done.

And I suddenly realized that my son and his buddy are so much younger than me, that they don't even remember Hank Williams Junior, not to mention his old man. (Not that I remember the original Hank).

After coffee and parting with the boys, I went back to my old office building and sat in the rear lobby with a tablet I had brought, surfing on the office wifi for a little while, and then biked home. Then my wife wanted to go out in the car for some errands so we did that.

Today (Sunday) I had to take my backup/beater bike to the store because I mangled the rear derailleur a few days ago. I think it was probably a combination of inattention and forgetting to shift off the small front ring as I came over the top of a hill, so that I ended up cross-chaining, and maybe the derailleur being old and failing, but somehow it got caught in the spokes and bent out of shape, plus I think I may have bent the hanger part of the frame a bit. So I wanted a mechanic to replace it instead of me. Anyway, I couldn't pedal it, but I was able to ride it like a scooter, pushing with one foot part of the way to the store, because it was a bit downhill, and then I walked the approx 3 km (2 miles) (slightly uphill) back home in light rain.

Walked down to the Walgreen's to pick up an Rx for the wife yesterday. Thought about walking to either Wal-Mart or the other Walgreen's in town (could use some new headphones), but rain is in the area and expected to turn severe with little notice.
