That's cycling. I've been tracking my stair climbing for the past 2-3 years, and my walking gets tracked on and off over the years, although regularly since February 2015.

Somehow, I knew the answer would be yes. I did not expect 161728.4 however. Impressive.

What about Rowan's totals?

I had a small celebration when I finally hit 160,000 km.

Rowan keeps track of his own cycling but hasn't been doing it for as long, I don't think.

Data is my life, so tracking things is quite natural for me.

Incidentally, a bit of trivia, although I've been cycling since I was 6 years old kind of on and off as many kids do, I started cycling "seriously, avidly, enthusiastically, regularly" on Sunday April 29, 1990. So I've got a bit of an anniversary coming up.

Today's 50 miler ended up to be only 44 miles. I went out fasted and suffered... just wasn't there like I recall. It sure has been a long winter and my legs found out the hard way today, yikes!

You are very organised. I don't even know how far I rode this morning. At least I think I did ride.

Happy almost anniversary.

Yesterday 103 miles. Not much to photograph.

A couple of cranberry bogs, and a tom turkey struttin' his stuff. It was better when he was facing me.

It's easy to see what a paradise that part of the world provides. You obviously are living life large. Sorry to hear of the DVT - and I know you have an "annoying" foot issue as well.

I certainly had my share of great "post 50 year-old" rides, but I have to report little activity this last year. Unlike you and Rowan - my partner has lost most of her interest in riding and prefers to hike or walk for exercise. We both had major heart surgery last year - and both had some complications but we both eventually have completely recovered.

My last Century was May of 2015 - but I fairly pleased with my current year's record of making 51 miles in three hours without putting a foot down. To most of the folks I'm in contact with - that is Long Distance Riding.
Thanks RC!

This is a beautiful part of the world. Hilly ... but very scenic.

I do hope you're feeling better. Major heart surgery is quite something, and as I recall you were recovering from other incidents as well.

I'm glad to hear that you're still riding.

Yeah, my poor left leg/foot has taken a beating what with burning it to the bone in 2001 and then developing DVT in 2009. It swells and aches at random times. And arthritis in the right.

I lost weight in 2015, and then got back into the long distance stuff in 2016. We did a couple 200Ks, a 300K, a 400K, and 400 km of a 600K. I still have a bit of a mental block when it comes to the 600K distance, but in addition to that, I had picked something up on the trip to or from or during the 400K, and was very ill until the week before the 600K. We think ... measles!! So my training between the 400K and 600K was non-existent. Hopefully this year will be better, but I'm still so pleased we were able to do 400K again.

Happy Belated Birthday Machka.

I participated in the Ultra Cycling Year Rounder challengs (formerly century a month) in 2014. In 2011 I started riding the double centuries in the California Triple Crown series. I rode the Grand Tour in 2011, and in 2012. In 2013 I tried to qualify for the Triple Crown award by riding 3 in a calendar year. I bonked at the Spring Solvang DC, at mile 169, but did ride 2 more that year. I did qualify in 2014, and rode 5 in 2015 and 2016.

I was fortunate to meet Rick@OCRR ah the Hemet double in 2013, and again at several of the doubles after that. I met Biker395 at the Eastern Sierra DC in 2014. I am currently at 19 doubles in the California Triple Crown series.

btw, I was 59 when I started riding the doubles. I have ridden several 200k and 300k randonneur rides in Arizona, and rode a few centuries before that. I ride 100k almost every Saturday as our club routes are 48 - 50+ miles, and I ride to the start, which is another 6 or 7 miles depending. I guess I forgot riding el Tour de Tucson 6 times, the century route.

Well the Southern Inyo Double was quite the windfest ... they were actually stronger than predicted, and actually caused a crash or two. But it was still an awesome ride. Pix and story to come.

Your Bullshifter mates were there!

And boy, did they come in handy. With the 25+ MPH tailwinds at the start (and in utter darkness), my bud Gal got blown into some rumble stripping, lost control and crashed. Lucky for me, I had recognized that we were all going to fast with that tailwind and backed off ... I was able to avoid running over her.

So there we were, only 7 miles into a 200 mile ride, waiting for the sag wagon to come to get her in the dark windy pre-dawn. And who comes to the rescue? A couple of your Bullshifter buds.

The good news is that although it looked like she had a broken elbow, she was fine ... only a contusion and a lot of scrapes.

I saw the pic in FB, of her in the emergency room. Jim and Jed decided not to ride and to volunteer. It is my intent to ride 2 more CTC doubles this year.

Oh yea ... the route should be completely clear. But bring the insect repellent ... the skeeters and no-see-ums may be out. We've had a lot of water this year.

I'm 63 and still ride alot BUT... I haven't rode a century in a looong time. 2 years ago I got off to a fast start and thought I would ride one but had some health problems and was off the bike for a few months. This spring I'm off to another fast start and really hope to do at least 1 century this summer.

Quick summary ... more detailed report to come.

This weekend was a 5-part saga.

Part 1 - Cycle a 300 km randonnee. Check! Completed on Good Friday. Rolled in at 11 pm - 17 hours of cycling.

Part 2 - Support riders on 300 km randonnee. Check! Completed on Saturday. We saw them off at 6 am, napped, then headed out to find them on the road.

Park 3 - Cycle a 200 km randonnee. Check! Completed today ... about an hour and a half ago - 12 hours and 11 min of cycling.

Part 4 - Relax. Commenced now.

Part 5 - Do some route checking for 400 km randonnee. We'll do that on Tuesday and it will be done by car.

So ... 500 km of cycling in just over 60 hours ... with a day off in between.

I do 20-30 metric centuries per year, and 2-6 full centuries. Not much in the way of centuries-plus, though. I figure when I get to 100 miles it's time for a beer and a nap! My longest day's ride was doing the Wolverine 200, the last year it was held on Belle Isle (in the Detroit River.) The challenge was for 200 miles in 12 hours. There were only five 200-mile finishers that year, all on recumbents. I made it in spite of the 'beer and a nap' in the mid-afternoon.

Hi @BP.

You may recall we met a couple times at the OHR ride in Michigan. Are you sure the challenge was for 200 miles in 12 hours? I rode the Wolverine 200 back in around 1971 and it was a 24-hour challenge. For those who have never heard of it, it was five-mile totally flat lap around Belle Isle, a city Island park in the Detroit River (designed by Frederick Law Olmsted), with one approximately 6 foot rise on a small bridge over a stream. It was a festive event and camping was allowed on the island only that one time of the year.

I completed it on a five speed Schwinn Suburban. This was in spite of a penny-farthing cyclist who dismounted in front of me and fell backwards and taco’ed my front wheel. I had to call my mother to buy me a wheel and drive it over. I guess I had a lot of gumption back then to continue the ride.

What year did the Wolverine 200 end? Recently I replied to a post by a BF subscriber who is moving to Metro Detroit, and touted its sponsor:

PS: After I thought about it, maybe there was a 12 hour 200 mile challenge; that's two 6-hour centuries. I had heard that back in 1971, a rider did 440 miles in 24 hours.

That's cycling. I've been tracking my stair climbing for the past 2-3 years, and my walking gets tracked on and off over the years, although regularly since February 2015.

I've never kept track of how many miles I ride in a year ... all but one of my bikes are odometerless. That's always been OK with me, because I'm not goal oriented in that sense, and I can estimate the total with reasonable accuracy.

But then, I realized I am probably nearing enough miles to get to the Moon. Your numbers are getting there too!

PS: Since the actual distance varies anyway from apogee to perigee, I think I'm gonna just estimate and go for the average number. I wonder if a bottle of champagne would fit in my bottle cage?

The distance to the Moon might not put me off, but the climbing definitely would.

Last Friday, near Providence R.I. to Cape Cod Canal, and back. Mainly rural roads. 118 miles. Was going for 120 but, took a short cut at the end.
I'm getting good at fixing flats in the middle of nowhere after midnight, below freezing. Met a nice guy on another Litespeed, a 1997 "Catalyst" looked like new. Newer Ksyriums than mine. Poor guy had to ride Campy though.
