Nice pics, nice ride.

Early this week the doc gave me clearance to ride again so I commuteded (that's past tense of commuted) Thursday and Friday. Then late yesterday afternoon my neighbor Larry texted me to ask if I was going out this morning. What better excuse to take a bike out!

We left the houses about 10:30, got 43.4 miles under the tires, not a bad day at all! He rode his Serotta, I rode my Bianchi instead of one of the tubular-equipped uber-bikes because it was ready to go from the commute.

A quick stop for a photo op:

Thanks! As far as photobucket is concerned, I signed up for a .99 a month thing with them about 2 years ago. So far, no issues. I am sure that will change though....

I took the Gazelle out for 49.9 miles today, mostly roads I'm familiar with. No bike pic. Road pics. No vast, scenic vistas, but green. Lovely green. And blue sky with fluffy white clouds.

Today I volunteered as a marshal on the NYC Century ride. There are different lengths: 35, 55, 75, and 100 miles. I volunteered for the 55 mile route but missed the turn and ended up on the 75 mile route.

My GPS tracks

I'm tired.

I rode at Long Beach Island in NJ yesterday. Perfect weather and it was all flat. Food was good and the scenery was fantastic! Wish I could paste a pic but I don't know how.

Were you on the north side or the south side of the Missouri River? I ride to the north side from home. I understand there is a park on the south side of the confluence but I've never been there.

Going up a to the top of a 12.000 hill is a pain but it's worth it for 6-7 miles of this great hard pack no traffic slight downhill
lined with aspens and pine trees at the peak.

Forgive me for a belated post from Sunday's ride. I went up & over the east bay hills into Orinda and Lafayette before looping back into Berkeley via Wildcat Canyon.

A view of the San Pablo Reservoir.

Happy goats, happy dog:

On the way back into Berkeley, I was only a few seconds behind an accident on a winding climb up Wildcat Canyon. A truck which had just aggressively passed me moments before had tried to pass another cyclist around the next blind corner. Based on what witnesses reported once I arrived, the white car was coming downhill around the bend when it got clipped by the truck in the wrong lane. Fortunately, nobody was hurt and all parties stopped to exchange information, but the white car took a lot of damage.

Well, there was a time when that beautiful glass of local brew would have been my target. But, I walk funny enough, and the tremors make me look like I have the shaking DTs from alcohol abuse. My medication is really reactive with alcohol. so I had best have a glass of iced tea while you guys quaff a few glasses. I don't mind being the designated driver, er, ride leader/wife phoner.

Truth be known, I drink very little myself. Most of my life I have been the designated driver too. Got to drive a lot of neat cars back in the day because of that.

42 miles on the Blue Ridge Parkway today. A nice 67 degrees in the pic but a muggy 82 down in the valley. I'm pretty sure that's Lexington VA off in the distance.

I don't think I posted here but a couple of weeks ago I rode up Thunder Ridge and came across a rattlesnake. Not a common occurrence here in the Blue Ridge, but word is the local Timber Rattler is more venomous than the diamondback.

Did the 70 mile course for the Mammoth gravel grinder from St Croix Falls Wi (the official ride is in the spring). The course is pretty much flat, but it traverses some roads that go through extremely sandy terrain. Road or beach, you be the judge. I bit it twice riding 2.1's on my drop bar 26'r, and my buddy hit the sandy ground about 4 times running 40's. Made me wish I had my fat bike in couple sections.

Also, you know you're way out in the sticks when the only (and extremely few) vehicles passing you are 4x4 pickups with 2 or 3 hound dogs in the bed. Not sure what's in season this time of year, just happy it wasn't cyclists. That said, the scenery in certain spots was very much worth the effort even on a cloudy day.
