I'm probably faster than you over 10 miles, but I'll struggle to keep up at 50. Well, that's at sea level, you'd probably clobber me in beginning, too.

Fall for sure. Too many roads closed in spring and none of the high country is open yet. Come when the aspens are changing. End of Sept maybe?

I can't make it this fall but will try to make this happen next year. The timing sounds excellent. We have our own fall color show in early to mid October, and I wouldn't want to miss it.

True -- I think I was being misguidedly optimistic. When I mapped the course on ridewithGPS it was about 5000 feet of climbing, not the 7000+ that my computer told me (although everyone's computer said something different so who knows how much there actually was.)

Here in SW Ohio, there's essentially zero gravel roads. Even the lane-and-a-half farm roads are paved.

I rode part of this route in New York State last summer, found on a "riding the Catskills" blog. The route was tagged "Worth the Trip". Yes, it was.
The gravel roads were all nicely maintained and graded. A nice mix of woods and farmland. Some steep hills along the way.

Beth and I did a short ride on rented MTBs, on gravel roads near the Meadows campground at Harts Pass, while the shop set my new wheels up tubeless for me.

Today's ride, only 9.7 on gravel but it felt like 97! The combines and 2 wheel grain wagons have the roads really torn up.

Ride started in the valley. Really nice roads and scenery. Beautiful weather...
Wild Muskadine grapes.
GPS wasn't much help here and I was pretty much lost after this point...
Conditions deteriorating - climbed out of the valley into the clouds, temperature dropping, fog, then rain, then the tires packed with mud and sustained 12% climbing. Winding Stair Gap Rd is aptly named...
Decided to abort. Rode back to the valley and it was beautiful weather. 18 miles, 2600 ft climbing, 7.4 MPH average
