Nice long recreational ride with some friends today - hit 105 miles by 2PM.

But wait: there's no toilet paper or cat litter or coffee! I did a much shorter (9.7 mile) run with the trailer.

Those fires must be incredible - we've been having hazy smoky red sunsets lately (on the WI/MN border), and I believe there may have been some air alerts over here as well.

Busy week of errand walking and walking to and from uni (twice).

Next week is shaping up to be even busier!

8.2 km walk today ... and almost all transportation.

That's the longest walk I've done since mid-June. There have been some close contenders, but I did a bit extra today.

And all of that was with a somewhat heavy-ish backpack.

I'm hoping for a lunchtime walk to the botanical garden one day this week. Apparently the tulips are in bloom.

I'd feel I accomplished a lot just doing 9.7 miles with the trailer, without the century warmup.

I've been walking more than 30 miles a week and up to 12 miles in one session. It's the only thing keeping me sane lately!

Just curious: is your username related to the buying of toilet paper and cat litter generally, for some reason, or is it just a coincidence that this post is about those things and your username is actually related to something else entirely?

Coincidence

The real story: when my (now 19 year old) stepdaughter was 2, she wanted a white kitty for her birthday, but mispronounced it as wipe kitty. We got our own wipekitty a few years back (see my avatar.)

It was time to move away from the cat-themed online handle that I'd used throughout my 20s, and wipekitty made a good alternative.

That's a cute story. I'm a little disappointed my hunch that you were a crazy cat lady that has to wipe up a lot of messes turns out to be nowhere near the truth, but I guess it's better for you that you have one stepdaughter instead of 20+ leaky cats.

Sorry to disappoint

We're just borderline animal hoarders - 3 cats and a 120 pound dog that is still growing. So, there are plenty of messes to clean up - especially when it's wet and the dog creates mud to bring indoors.

Keeping animals outside could save you a lot of those messes, not to mention a lot of toilet paper and kitty litter, but I'm sure you would find it cruel and lonely to banish your pets outside the house. If I remember correctly, you've posted about cold winters, so probably outdoor pet quarters wouldn't be doable. I don't know what I'd do with all those animals depending on me, let alone living in the house. I had a cat and a fish for years waiting for them to die so I could travel without finding a pet-sitter. It was funnily torturous because I really loved them too much to actually want them to die prematurely, but I sort of regretted having acquired them in the first place, so it ended up being convenient when they finally did go. Needless to say, I limit myself to enjoying wild animals now, which are wonderfully good at living independently from the natural resources of the surroundings.

Where did I walk today?

I walked from work to university!

I also walked to one of the local beaches between my classes ... had intended to sit out there and do a bit of reading etc. but the rain started again.

Regarding walking ...

October 9, 2017 -- total to date for 2017: 902 km

October 9, 2016 -- total to date for 2016: 756 km

October 9, 2015 -- total to date for 2015: 809 km

Catching measles right at the end of August in 2016 kind of slowed me down a bit. But I'm really pleased with the total this year so far!

As of yet, I haven't gone anywhere today, aside from kitchen and bathroom. The last few days though, with the exception of Friday, I've gone for rides of varying lengths. Mostly to the grocery store, though yesterday, I went for a good, 2 hour ride.

I rode to an 8:30 AM meeting...whew...that was tough! (I usually work, and ride, later in the day.)

I'm debating whether to go for a road ride or take a nap. The sun is setting earlier each day, so evenings are a better time to work than to ride.

Yes, people keep asking me if I'm going to cycle to work on Ride to Work Day (Oct 18).

Well, um, for me to cycle to work, I would have to leave home about an hour earlier than I currently do. I'm not a morning person, and the idea of starting my day an hour earlier is just not that appealing. Plus my ride to work involves a big, long climb and then a frightening, traffic-filled descent into the city. Might be good for waking me up and getting the blood pumping, but just not sure that's how I want to start my day!

No riding or walking today

It rained all day, and I had errands to run that were an hour between stops.

10.8 km of walking today. Not all at once, but it added up! And a lot of that was transportational with a heavy backpack.

Today was Day 1 of the step challenge I signed up for.

I took the bike trailer to work so I could run errands afterward. I left work a bit before 7PM, so it was dark for the journey.

There's something comforting about riding in the dark. I've kind of missed it through the summer months.

Thanks for the encouragement! I was getting a little depressed about the darkness but this post cheered me up a bit. I work 12 hour shifts, so it's almost dark now both when I go to work and when I return.
