Why should it bother you that people talk about how fast and/or far they ride? For some, the enjoyment they get is all about speed or distance or both. Naturally they want to talk about it just like others like to discuss whatever it is they are interested in.

I'm personally not one of those people but I have nothing against them. I don't feel threatened by them or envious of them and if they look down on me for not being fast I could care less.

But exactly HOW many miles ahead?

But you're doing 40+ MPH only because that bike has too many gears and it doesn't have disk brakes.

Always the talk of
Speed and how fast you ride.
But no average.

Couch-sitters weigh-in
Between the cannibal bites,
"Be wary, speed kills."

Spoke tension pales to
That between posters
RGrouch and IFabz.

Lincoln-esque answer:
"Fast enough to get me there."
In before the lock.

I think the takeaway from this thread should be that anyone riding a faster average is missing out on the scenery, and therefore doing it wrong. Or maybe they aren't stopping for beers, which is equally wrong. Unless, of course, they are actually racing, where their results speak for themselves.
I've heard of group rides that traditionally end at pubs, but I figure that their average speeds are too high. Same goes for actual racing ...

thats actually pretty strong for a guy who tours. at least in my book. when i tour i dont keep an average but i would be amazed if it was anything over 11mph. sometimes when i commute i forget to do anything but enjoy the ride so i am pretty sure i get low averages on all my rides.

BTW do they still make Thunderbird, they heavily advertised it in Calif when I was there in the 50s. They claimed it was "made from the first squeezing of the grapes".

Only half wits and carbon roadie MAMIL's use chain lube. Homemade wax (probably from Bee's you harvest yourself, without the suit...cause DBAP) is where its at.

Brooks Saddles.

Ditch Strava. Or just unplug generally. I mean not from here...how could I tell people I'm above all this world wide web stuff if I don't get it on it? Leave your GPS at home or you'll miss the scenery.

Speed

Great subject. I don’t judge anybody. Go slow as your feeble legs will spin. Please stay to the right....

Warning---------------if I rode twice as fast I would have more time to sit in front of the computer and post threads that a few dont seem to like.

Now about those funny looking hugely expensive cycling glasses.

I just read the name of the poster and I know it is one of your stock threads and anything I say will apply to all ... because none of them are about anything but a slow and lonely old 'bent rider in Nebraska calling out "I am too still relevant!"

You are, Mr,. Rydabent. I am sure you are.
