Interesting things you can get from a power meter even if you're JRA - look at your ride power curve and compare it to your last 6 weeks (or last year). I've always liked my fitness/freshness graph. It's been a pretty accurate picture of how fit I am (relatively obviously) and how fresh my legs are. It's also a much more accurate measure of how much work you do over a ride, or a segment. Much more interesting than average speed if the wind is different from day to day.
And yes, those are red speed plays - I stole them off my wife's spin bike. I need to figure out what to do for pedals because I need two more sets. I'm going to try out some shimano pedals and see if my knees will tolerate them, they're a little more than half the price of those damn speedplays.

I have Celeste speedplay pedals on the Emonda which is blue and orange. We’re given to me by Lisa who didn’t like speedplay as she was comfortable with spd-sl which I hate

Hey all,
It’s been a while since I’ve posted, so I thought I would drop in and give an update.
My cancer continues. Between chemo, radiation and acute rehabilitation, I’ve been admitted at USC for the past month. I’ve had three back surgeries in a month and a half, give or take. I spent thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years here in the hospital. That’s all a small price to pay, though. The bigger issue is I have lost all use of everything below the waist (easy now, this is a family forum). The biggest issue is the docs say that people with a recurrence of my disease, at my age, normally have 4-6 months to live. We got that news about a month ago, so doing the math, carry the one.....well, you can see where I’m going with that.
My days of riding are over. If by some miracle I beat this, I think my days of riding a diamond frame are over. Again, IF I beat this, then I’ll look into a hand Cycle. I’ve been told by PhotoJoanne that I am in no way to bother myself with selling my bike. She will handle that later, probably with the help of a local friend who is also a cyclist.
It looks like I’ll be going home for the first time in a long time this coming Tuesday. I’ll still have to make daily trips down here for radiation, but at least I’ll be home for a few days with my family!
As a mod, I have to tread lightly, but I have a faith that says that my soul is secure. I have no fear of death. I’m actually feeling a bit guilty that I’ll be in glory before my family. My sorrow comes from what my wife will have to deal with without a husband, and my two girls without a dad. They are all strong women, and will be fine. We have an amazing support network, but still, it won’t be easy on them.
So that’s the latest on me. Here’s praying for that miracle!

Continued prayers for you PhotoJoe.
Cancer has hit my house as my mother-in-law is battling cancer and has been between a rehab facility and the hospital for the past couple months instead of being here doing the things I pay her to do (laundry, fetching kids from bus, and such).
I am glad to hear you have faith in our Lord above.
Dave

You and your family are in my prayers PhotoJoe. What a vicious disease. Good news that you may get to go home. Take care!

My prayers are with you and your family. I will continue to send healing mojo your way. That said I’m honored to have gotten to know you thru cycling.
You have a fabulous family and support system not to mention your deep faith.

Non omnino gravis
In other news, I ended up on the ground again. Coming down a windy street local to us called Sunset, and a guy in a Toyota Sienna went to make a left turn in front of me. I felt the rear lock up for a split second, and managed to hold it together, only to be ultimately defeated by a big shrubby tree which hangs out into the road. Went from 27mph to 0mph in maybe a second and a half. Got a nice map of strawberries up my left side-- knee, hip, elbow, shoulderblade, even some nicks on my face from the tree. But the bike is A-OK-- I went down on the left, there's a tiny scuff on one of the hoods and a scuff on the edge of the saddle, but it doesn't look like any other part of the bike even hit the ground.
There was one casualty, though. RIP Smith Overtake, 5/19/17 - 1/25/18. You did your job. I just noticed that in the photo you can see the crack in the foam right under the H in Smith. It goes all the way across.
