Glad the helmet did what it was supposed to. You said this was probably the fourth one you've destroyed. Are you buying a different kind of helmet because of that? Stronger or thicker or with less venting and holes in it?

Raced my TT this morning, it’s a 20K course, out and back. Around 2% downhill grade going out, but usual wind direction is a headwind going out, so the splits are typically very even, time wise.
Forecast today called for steady winds during the race time, but a tailwind going out. That reduces the time of the first split/outbound leg and means the strategy is to put more power into the longer/uphill/headwind/return leg. My plan was 14 min at 105% going out and 18:30 at 110% going back. 32:30 would be a PR for me on the course.
Then I woke up and the forecast had changed, the wind speed would be higher than forecast and building during race time, making the splits even more unequal. I purposely registered as late as possible to get the last start time (steady winds would have been a neutral factor, but warming temps would give the later starts a tiny advantage, warmer air is faster). Now with the new forecast: disadvantage me.
I wound up riding 105% going out in around 13:40 and 111% coming back in around 20:30.
New position, zero problem.
Slow time but course conditions were slow today and I’m really happy with how I rode it. We’ll see what Da Man says when he sees the data. Came in 2nd of 6, fun day at the races.

Kudos.
Was the person who beat your time the nemesis? If so, maybe you should get her hooked on another activity.

I actually like it when she shows up. It helps me figure out TTing, because she's so good at them that she pretty much always puts up a good time. Then I know what a good time is for the course conditions that day.
Of course I'd rather win if possible. But if I'm not going to win, then its better for me that she races too. Because I can make more sense of my post-race analysis that way.

The dried mangos are good. Tart and chewy. They are the Starbursts of the dehydrated food so far. Made two versions: plain and Tajin-coated (lime-chile-salt).
We are going down into Beverly Hills tonight for a concert- Jake Shimabukuro, the ukulele impresario. These tickets were Mr. H's Christmas present.
I did not realize when I bought the tix that today is Oscar day. Between our house and the theater lies Hollywood. Should be a fun drive.
Heading out for a bite before the show. Fancy pizzas and such at a place called Pizzeria Mozza. Its a huge favorite of ours. Chef-run place: Nancy Silverton, partnered with Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich.
I hope I can stay awake. I got up early this morning. Even for me.

Both of my etap batteries died today. I was deliberately running them until death so I could get an idea of how long it would take. I alternate them every ride because I wanted to get an average of miles independent of front vs. rear.
They went 380 miles and died within 45 minutes of each other. Last 6 mi. of my ride were in a 17 mph gear at 95-100 rpm. Luckily, I was parked in the Illinois River valley and was mostly downhill to the car.
I think they are supposed to go longer according to SRAM and maybe they will after a few charges. Regardless, I'm going to charge them at ~300 miles from now on.

1. I did not cross that bridge when I came to it.
2. I did not burn it behind me.

The crew from the shop went out to Apache Wash today to go mountain biking and I went along to hike. I was concerned about getting back to the minivan in time for LoP to head to work so I chilled for awhile eating pizza, drinking Monster, and listening to a podcast then did a short 2 mile out and back. My magnificent walking staff finally showed up and although I didn't need it, it was nice to know I had it and I was able to get a little trail dirt on the end to break it in. If I didn't have such a strict time limit, I think I'd try Badger Brawl trail next time.
While I was walking to the restrooms, a young woman came flying off the trail, past the restrooms, and into the parking lot. She was wearing a black sports bra and small shorts- sorry, no pix- and her braid was whipping out behind her. I was thinking "Really? You wore that on the trail?" I was relating the story to LoP and he said "Well, why wouldn't you wear that on the trail?" True story: A few moments after the speed demoness came by, a woman wearing tights, bike shorts, jersey, etc rode up with serious proof of why you have to wear more clothes out there. She had been riding Apache Wash trail with two friends and just had time to say "Oh sh*t" before making contact with one of the jumping cacti. One of her friends was able to remove enough splines with his fingers for her to be pain-free enough to hit another trail. (Clearly, she was superhuman.)

Just hanging there. The Rohan Dennis' Hour Record BMC was next to it, but I didn't have an opportunity to grab a pic.
