Were you a racer? If not, I still think it's safe to assume that Herbie, now, is faster than you've ever been and more regularly pushes the limits of performance of both himself and his equipment. That's not knocking you at all, and I'm in the same boat, but just 'cause two people are riding bikes that are similar in appearance and function doesn't mean that they're both participating in an activity in a manner that's remotely similar.

During my extended ICU stay in 2016, I had a deluge of tests, MRIs, CT scans, etc. and a brain mri showed white matters disease too great for my age. It was recommended that I have a second MRI and see a neurologist which I did. First thing he asked was if I remembered having concussions and I told him that I knew of three for sure in my crit racing days.. He said that I didn’t have white matter disease but signs of multiple concussions and showed me these very specific damaged areas.
Anyway, racing or specifically criterium racing means you’re going to hit the deck occasionally, Broken helmets are fairly common.

I would think that the type of crash plays a big role, too. As an adult, the few times that I've hit the deck, it's been a low-side; I would assume that's most common in solo riding and head strikes seem to be pretty avoidable under those circumstances (unless you're adding a significant speed factor, in which case you're more likely to slide in to something before coming to a rest). I would think that a low-side would be a less common way to wreck in a group.

You're not going to pursue that debate?

That green bottle on the table with the blue cup on top is filled with liquid fuel to fire the camp stove for cooking. Firewood is for, you know, campfires. Though while in Whitefish, MT there were two guys at the hiker/biker sites who were riding the Great Divide MTB Route. They cooked some sausages over an open fire. Probably wanted to conserve fuel.
I pack an good kitchen setup. From last June:

I was down only one day and a half with my head cold. I'm still sneezing quite a bit, and am on cold medicine as well, but I am somewhat functional. My big concern, Saturday, was would I be well enough to go in front of the judge today and tomorrow. That answer is a resounding yes, though I doubt my presence is necessary on either occasion.

I truly became my father this morning. I installed a chain on my wallet, as a measure designed to keep it in my possession. I had been considering it for a few weeks. After a few close calls.

So many surprises with that one. They initially told me the state had filed charges against the seller. Then I find out that no, they filed charges against me, being I was the last one to touch the falsified papers. This came as quite a shock. So today I officially declare my innocence, and then tomorrow I officially place charges of fraud against the man who sold it to me. Then the investigation can begin.
The chances of getting the car back are slim to none, due to the extreme number of forgeries. I found, later, that even the service records are forged. The one hope left is that the seller can be apprehended and forced to pay the money back, or part of it anyway. I have hope, due entirely to the thoroughness of my lawyer.
And I've found that this experience of mine is not all that uncommon, in recent rears anyway, when buying a used car.
