I agree, that thing looks pretty sweet. Cannondale had some good grey bikes in those days (my favorite days). Looks like a 63cm, which is my size, so I think it's even cooler.

SR's make great flat bar bikes. I just put one together with a low riser & Shimano 1051 for my daughter to use as a city bike when hauling the bambino around.

Not sure if I've shared this here or not. My 93 r400. Built it up last spring. Currently torn back down to be stripped and polished. The black powder coat is in sorry shape.

@sloar, nice ST. Looks like a decently wide-range freewheel on there. I do like the cannondale colors. My ST is black, but it's my only black bike.

1993 Turquoise Metallic T700, 19"

This is my 1st taste of touring geometry, very smooth ride with a longer wheelbase and sloping top tube. Interesting how they listed it with English frame size measurements (19, 21, 22 etc)

1988 R500 Cannondale Crest team 60cm

Some consider this the Holy Grail of Cannondales. It's way too big for me so if anyone has a 48, 50, or 52 to trade.....

Now there is another 80's R model with the Cannondale decal on the downtube instead of on the top tube. My 87 Black Lighting is the very same way and I've never found out why or saw another like that until you posted this. They didn't start putting them on the downtube until 1992 if I'm not mistaken. I do notice though that your Cannondale decal has a much smaller font compared to mine. I'm guessing yours is because of the Crest decal on the toptube.

Very cool bike though, can't say I've ever saw one before.

Pretty sure that this was a "not in the catalog special make up", if you google Cannondale Crest, there's info that they had a Crest sponsored team from 1988-1992(?) so this could be a 1992 model with the down tube decal. There's no stamping on the chain stay or bottom bracket indicating frame size or year of manufacture.

The decals are super thick (like stickers) not like the flush decals that come on regular C'dales. It's almost the consistency of "puffy paint", kinda plasticky per se

I rode it reluctantly and it's too tall on the stand over (I had lean it way over at the stop lights) and as you can see the seat is as far down and it barely allows me to reach the pedals.

Scroll down to page 9 in the 1989 catalog and it shows a picture of the team version.

Very nice, especially that color. 👍
My 1991 ST600 still had the horizontal top tube. Sometimes I wish it were that sloping variety. 🙄😉

Cannondale Black Lightning converted to single speed because person who sold it to me didn't mention the derailler threading was completely stripped. It was my first bike so I was quiet ignorant of what to look for. About a year after owning it was stolen from my back yard and havent seen it since. This is the only photo I could find of it.

I'll swap you. Check out my '87 SR500 with factory customs graphics. Measuring the traditional way c-t-c, this bike is 54cm seat tube and 56cm top tube. Same 105 BioPace group as on your bike.

As cool as that graphics turquoise is, i would be all over a "Celeste" mint green or Pink one in a 48-52cm but at this time, I have my fingers crossed that there's a tall dude that needs mine and he has a small one that we could work out a trade.

Crest for Crest anyone?

Thanks, I enjoyed riding it very much, it felt so quick once struggled to get up to speed from a stationary position. Luckily I live in a area with flat terrain otherwise my set up wouldn't be to viable. The freewheel made an incredibly aggressive noise reminiscent of a swarm of bees. It could drown out and silence your worries haha.

Yea I like to maximize space so I went ahead an used the space under the shelf, which to me was a nagging void needing to be filled.
