Water Bottle Cage Mounting- Elegantly??
My wife's Miyata Mixte does not have bosses for a water bottle cages. What is a "elegant" way to mount one?

There isn’t really an elegant way because it needs to clamped on. Do you want it on the downtube? If it is a Mixte some of the nicer clamps may have too much standoff to fit.

Twofish makes velcro removeable mounts for just about any place on a bike. I've used one of their products for lights, and liked it.
For bottles, I use my jersey pockets.

I've been battling the same issue. I tried mounting a standard bottle cage last night, using a set of Velo Orange bottle cage clamps, over some lengths of innertube. The job came out okay, but I need to work on getting the clamps a little less crooked.

The mixte frame has two smaller-diameter tubes that leave the headset, pass on either side of the seat tube on the way to the dropouts, right? You could drill for rivnuts, but not in those small tubes. Installing rivnuts in the seat tube would work, but you need to consider how deep the seatpost slides in the seat tube.
Using self-fusing silicone tape under clamps is a good idea as well. I use that to secure the end of the handlebar tape, and to hold the cables in place before I wrap the bars. No messy adhesive if you need to remove it for some reason. The tape is certainly easier than drilling the seat tube and setting rivnuts - but you asked about elegant - so rivnuts win on the elegance score.

If clamps offend you, you could always use rivnuts, as is routinely done with non-steel frames.

I use the Velo Orange clamps with Zefal Vintage bottle cages. The combination of vintage-looking bits is harmonious, particularly on an older bike. If I were using modern aluminum cages I would go with the DMR clamp mentioned above.

Handlebar mount! (I'm biased.)
I didn't want to cover or damage the downtube decals on my 1959 Capo (pump along seat tube), or cover Ratshausmann on my 1960 Capo Sieger (pump pegs on downtube), so frame mounting was out for both.

Thanks for that. I was just kicking myself that I placed an order from Wiggle this past weekend and hadn't seen the DMR clamps. I have a Velo-Orange shopping list still going, though, and these just made it on there. These look a lot cleaner than the hose clamps I was going to use.

It seems to me that if you want the utility of mixte-ness, that step-through opening from not having a top tube, you might find a bottle cage on the seat tube or somehow on the mixte tubes (hand-fab some w-shaped plates to sandwich the mixte tubes?) is something you might avoid because it would to a degree fill that space.
Is there room UNDER the mixte tubes?

If you want to go the handlebar route, there's also the Minoura BH100C-S. It mounts to either side of the stem and swoops over to the center.

Currently working on a better solution than the original clamp on wire cage that came on my 75 Jubile Mixte. Don't have a good pic though, just these (as found of the Mixte). Will add a pic later with what I do for the Grand Jubile.

But here are some P-clamp links, you need to know the diameter of tubing you want to clamp onto. P-clamps have a lot of uses, they’re not just a “bike thing”.
