BikesDirect for the Parts + Wolverine Frame

I'm a tall guy and would like to get a Soma Wolverine. For now money is really tight. I'm wondering if instead of going full custom I could just strip this BikesDirect bike for the parts and throw it on the Wolverine - then upgrade it over time. Thoughts?

You might check bikeisland.com too (which is the outlet for the scratched/returned BD bikes). Slight discount off BD prices.

$580 for the newest wolverine frame.
$260 for the Wolverine fork.
$1000 for the BD bike.
$80 or more for odds n ends.

Also, the BD bike is QR and the Soma is TA so there is that.

that's over $1900 and money is tight. That term is relative, but I wouldn't figure this to be a great plan for a tight budget.
there are really great bikes for less.

this is the less expensive option than a full custom wolverine.

Not that many options for someone so tall. And the Wolverine frame has QR dropouts.

how tall?...im guessing he posted in another thread?

thanks for clarifying the QR on Soma. I had read it was TA and see that its convertible.
that certainly makes the idea of the BD bike better.

Looks like it's $700 just for an Apex 1 hydro group, so the BD bike might be the cheapest way to get a complete build.

The Wolverine is set up for a 1 1/8 inch steerer on the fork. this will limit you to your fork choices as most forks now use a tapered steerer.

For $1800 plus shipping you can get a Canyon aluminum Grail.

Not a bad idea. SRAM groupsets are not cheap, even from our friendly international vendors!

I know nothing about the wheels included with the BD bike, and it would be worth checking to see if they're something that will work for you. In some cases, BD cheaps out on the wheelset a bit.

Sorry yes I'm 6'7" with a 35.5in inseam. Wish I was shorter cause I'd just get a used gravel bike as this will not be my main bike. Soma's got some nice options 62/66cm Wolv, 66cm Fogcutter and DCD.

Soma just had a big Wolv sale where they had the frame for 400ish - but not sure about geo yet.

I have several Motobecane bicycles and they have been great. I have modified them all for minimal money about 100 bucks avg. I’ve upgraded handlebars, grips, pedals, stem and other parts. I have purchased stuff from bike island and they have always delivered.
