Axel conversion
Hi there.
I bought a set of wheels (Mavic crossmax)
the rear is 142 (12mm)
front is 100 (15mm)
I need to convert the rear to 135mm (9mm) and the front to 9mm to be used with a QR, so I bought some adapters that do just that.
I measured my rear hub and it is 142 from end to end. Each of the ends has this dark grey protruding end piece with a slot in it. If I were to remove these end-pieces, the hub would measure 135mm. Then I can slide the QR adapter inside, which will reduce the hollow axel to 9mm.
Any tips on how to remove these grey end pieces?
photos attached. I just don’t want to botch things up.
Thanks.

Simple, sell them, and buy a set the that fits (your probably get a better price selling as a set rarther than individually).
For the rear, you can get converters to go the other way 135 to 142, but no 142 to 135,for the front Mavic 99694101
But for all of of it, why did you buy something which won't fit???

Lol, Having a bad day? ... can’t read good?
Yes you can convert 142 to 135... this is pretty common.
As I pointed out: what makes this hub 142mm, are the additional end-caps that protrude out.
These come off. Mavic sells axel conversion kits for both front and rear.
I was just asking if anyone had any tips on removing them.

As an aside, is the rear axle really 9 mm? Most rear qr axles are M10x1.0. Front qr axles are usually 9mm.
