Trek announcing "something that will change cycling forever"
So my Trek dealer texts me at 9 o'clock tonight to say that I may wish to cancel / hold my Project One Madone SLR order because of Trek's announcement that "A change like this comes along once every 30 years" and this will "change cycling forever". He's heard nothing from Trek but says this is not unusual for big announcements.
Bold Trek Announcement
Well, that's interesting. What do you think? Would you hold off on your order too? I think I will given it'll only be a 3 week delay. Any speculation of what this "something" could be? I'm kind of thinking a new graphene frame (I know this is not a new technology, but it hasn't been produced by a big manufacturer yet).

Bad example
I predict the new Madone, Émonda, etc will be made of steel.

Yep. It has the return of the venerable, dependable, unmistakable, pinnacle of all cycling tech...The 3x7 "Rapid-fire" trigger shift, drive train system written all over it.
Cancel your order, then order another at a $500 premium.

Whatever it is, I can't wait for the chance to be smug and not purchase it.

I predict a nothing burger. Cycling industry has struggled recent years in the RD department. Recent "innovations" are either "more of the same" or rehashes of concepts found elsewhere for years or even decades. ABS for bicycles ...? :-)

Based on the background grapics in the ad, I say it is a new frame material or carbon layup method...

As for Trek.."buzz marketing". Risky as, no matter what it is, the hype exceeds reality and the launch generates as much disappointment as excitement. Segway would be the the poster child for this..

Completely new drivetrain with the bike frameset redesigned around this new innovation, including fluid dynamics at different price points.

It may change the way people spend their money, but it won't change cycling.

Hopefully it will be something that will be hyped so that all the people who want the latest and greatest will be dumping their old steel and aluminum bikes so they can get on the bandwagon and we will see some really insane deals on classics! Thirty years old Italian bikes will be so yesterday that they will sell for $50 or less. I can hardly wait.......
