I don't believe this is a 1992 bicycle. I don't recall that Campione del Mondo being used prior to the 1993 model year and the head tube mounted derailleur cable stops followed even later.

Haha, thanks! Actually this was in response to T-Mar's question on finding the date code (if you look closely, the black plastic piece is moved aside)

I built it up with my current favorite setup... 10v downtube shifters paired with empty Ergo brake levers. Delta brakes and SGR pedals and whatever silver 10v I have laying around! The tubular wheel set was used in Paris-Roubaix by the Liquigas team BITD but may be replaced with some Ambrosio blue clinchers for daily use.

For the empty Ergo's, I am trying to get the spacers for the Record TT brake levers modeled and 3D printed. These are unknown of by the Campy USA folks and may not have ever been a separate part. They fill the guts of the empty Ergo levers after you take out the shifting parts.

The cockpit breaks all of my rules, as it is an ITM stem paired to a Modolo bar with Cinelli cork tape! Talk about a trifecta! Again, whatever was laying around!

The saddle is one of many Aliante's from the Liquigas period. I made a trip to JoAnne's for some celeste ribbon and industrial grade cement, covered the wrong-shade of green and... we'll see if the edges rip apart my bibs or if it just melts the glue into a mucky mess! All for the fashion....

OK! who's holding up the bike?

Bianchi Campione De Italia ~ca(?)

Bianchi Campione De Italia ~ca(?)

Sorry to keep relying on you Bianchi officianados, but you seem to have a vast knowledge at your fingertips. I honestly don't know if there's a better forum out there

If you could tell me what
1) year,
2) components (what level) and if these would have been original/replacement,
3) frame tubing level(?)
Anything else that I might have missed?

While we're on the subject, how does Ofmega compare to Campagnolo (or are they one in the same?)
The more that I read, the more I realize that there are a huge amount of data that I could not begin to memorize

Ofmega is another Italian component maker. Some of their stuff through the '70s and '80s was CampI clonish and some was their own design. It is good quality stuff just not a pricey as CampI.

Your CdI is around '97, there usually isn't huge changes year to year. I seems most of the parts are original but looks like someone took off the Mirage Monoplanor brakes and 'upgraded' them to those DP Veloce calipers.

That Dedacciai tubing is custom drawn DB tubing made exclusively for Bianchi. Good basic middle of the road frame. I am thinking Bianchi used that frame through several models in those years, like they used to do with the Formula 2 tubed frames.

Thanks BG, how about the front/rear derailleurs and the hubs/rims? The RD doesn't have any identifying letters or numbers.

I have to say that the Mirage brifters are not as smooth as 105, Ultegra or Dura-Ace. The thumb release button seems harsh and requires an inordinate amount of force and I guess I'm used to Shimano's silky smooth up and down shift feel. Gotta hand it to the Japanese and their design and mechanical acumen.

The Campagnolo Delta brakes are super cool looking but the reviews are less than favorable for it's over all function and being cost prohibitive.

I'd agree with a circa 1997 Campione d'Italia. The derailleurs are either Velocé or Mirage and most likely Mirage, as they were OEM spec. The rims are Campagnolo Mexico 68 which are also OEM spec. The spec hubs were Campagnolo Avanti. The Dedacciai tubeset is probably custom only to the extent necessary to conform to Bianchi's Superest 2 configuration. Given the era, I'd consider this Cd'I a low mid-range model. I'd also rather have Shimano of the era than equivalent Campagnolo, whose only advantage by the time was one extra cog (depending on the group) and greater rebuild capability for the brifters.

Thanks TM, so 2 votes on 1997, done.* I rebuilt the rear hub/freewheel and I had a ridiculous time putting back the 3 paws!* I must have spent 3 hours on just figuring out how to keep the paws from being unsprung(?).* I used a paperclip that I bent into a circle to hold the paws in place while I slid the free wheel back into place and carefully removed the paper clip (sounds complicated i know)

Gorgeous! I love the decal font, reminds me of the vintage red lettering on earlier models. The paint is immaculate.
