I dont expect anyone to actually have an answer to the thread question as there are obviously too many variables.



Anyways- if I place a 2 bottle cage bosses in the traditional location and then 2 more on the NDS side about midway between the pedal and tire for a pump, I assume that wouldnt be an issue with regards to strength/reliability. Touring bikes have under the down tube bottle bosses right near the traditional down tube location, so I figure my idea isnt much different...though its a different tube is different and so stresses may be different.
Any thoughts?

My Touring bike builds have 2 above and one below , on the downtube ..

I used the lower one down by the BB for my MSR fuel bottle tank.


those mini pump brackets generally go on under a bottle boss ..

Again, touring bike I get better performance out of a long frame fit pump....



Road bike? YMMV .. now wolf tooth has a double side by side bottle cage mount adapter...

Be aware that when you start getting high on the seat tube, you might want to use studs rather than the normal bosses so that you don't interfere with seatpost insertion.

I normally put 5 bosses in the down tube. Two for a water bottle and three for bolt on cable guides. As mentioned, you want to consider how much seat post insertion you need before putting extra bosses in the seat tube.

some people drill the DT like swiss cheese for internal routing and other things. I think you will be okay as long as you don't put them where your feet will hit them. But wolftooth sells a doubleizer for the dt bottle cage mounts and people report that doesn't cause any problems. Which is interesting, because seat tube bottles cause me lots of problems with my calves.

Its an effective 65cm frame, but will most likely end up being a 61cm seat tube The bosses would be below the seat post.

Wasnt sure if anyone viewed needing to be more cautious with the seat tube than the downtube.

It was done on my Koga WTR bosses fit a Topeak pump bracket ..

This is how Bike friday has it's back of the seat tube bottle cage mounted ..

might be straddling the FD band with a low mounted one on the front side ..


& no reason for a DB down tube , straight gage better since you're putting all those holes in it for bottle bosses..
