Massive thunderstorms along the route from Monterey to Morro Bay earlier today, check out the Doppler:

Should make the stage "interesting", to the spectators at least. This is the kind of weather that Eroica was thankfully spared.

So far for my money, this race has been a snooze fest. Yesterday was just awful to watch. Everyone just sitting back taking it easy with the exception of 2 riders who wanted to ride. Kudos to them.
This ride will never make the cut over the long haul. The Euro's simply use this as a training ride to prepare for the Tour if they even come. The weather is just to nice, roads to wide, and atmosphere is to layed back.
I feel that many of the really good riders simply use this as a training vacation. Not to mention that for almost all of the teams, it is a long haul and expense to Cali for this ride. I get the Tour Down Under since it is the first big ride of the year, but Amgen is just not going to really make it due to the nature of the ride itself.
Yesterday was a good example of all the GC's guys just out for a ride. Mt Baldy seems like the only day anyone will really press the issue, so I guess 2 days out of 7 is the best we are going to get.

look at Lance in the Tour of Georgia. That was always a little tune up for him. He didn’t want to win.

Oh my God another mechanical!!?? A chain snap!? Chain issues happened yesterday as well for EF.
I almost tossed my phone when he went sailing thru the turn. Memories of last year's tour watching the team try and save the GC guy. I was hoping Taylor would be sprinting but Decunick is hot!

Yes sounds like he'll keep yellow for tomorrow.

Just read an article that explains that Tejay missed the turn on the bike he got from Lachlan because Lachlan's bike has the brake handles reversed! You'd think someone would have warned Tejay!

Sure, but I bet in the heat of the moment, chasing on, weaving through the caravan, and then hitting a hard 90 after coming down a ramp --- It's muscle memory.

Tejay van Garderen messes up, gets stuck behind a crash outside the 3Kms. to go point and comes in a minute down on Moscon and the main bunch yet is given the same time and retains overall lead.
As clear a case of favouritism for the local rider as you will get.
Sack the whole jury.

A few years ago, I found myself in an endodontist's office getting a root canal on the day of the Queen Stage of the TdF. She leaned the chair back, started the flow of nitrous in the little tube under my nose, and then handed me a remote control for a TV. Lo and behold, there was a TV on the ceiling! And it had NBC Sports...showing the TdF! I am told that they did a successful root canal that day...but all I know is that watching the TdF while doped on nitrous was pretty blissful. I was completely unaware of whatever they were trying to do in my mouth.

I'm planning to see stage 6 off Glendora Ridge Road, but unfortunately still nursing a very bad knee and won't be able to ride.
They ride this road both going down towards Glendora and back up towards Mt Baldy.
Great place to see downhill speed and uphill climbs without moving.
Gonna have to drive up to the spot at crack of dawn before road closures but still trying to figure out exactly when they close the course to cars.
Anyone planning to see stage six?

Today I rode out to Carpinteria and Highway 192 to see the Tour.
In spite of a night, and morning, of rains, the sky cleared and big, fluffy white clouds sailed against the backdrop of a bright blue sky.
I was fortunate enough to see the women riders racing down Gobernador Canyon Rd. and making a right turn on Hwy 192.
About 40 minutes later, the men raced in the opposite direction. I caught them going a gentle riser up 192 before turning left into Hwy 150 and heading to the KOMs of Lake Casitas.
All in all I had a great day of race-watching.
BTW Part One, today, and the next couple of days, would be a “good time” to commit a crime out on California’s highways. Seems like ALL CHP officers were present at the race. The overtime pay they are getting must be huge.
BTW Part Two, for those of you who think that the ATOC doesn’t matter, come on over and watch it. Cheaper than flying to France, Italia or Espana to watch their races and, to the average Joe, just as exciting to watch.

I'll be about two miles east of Horse Canyon Saddle.
GRR is in the low foothills.

NBC commentators spent a good bit of time leading up to this bragging about the women's race. The race happens and we hear snippets from a female talking head about the race situation and then see the last 100 meters of the race. While they talk about the men's race. If you want to successfully promote women's racing, at least give it some air time.
