Show Us Your Bikes Starting With H

Here's your chance to show us your bikes alphabetically!

It goes like this: every fortnight I'll start a new thread with a new letter in alphabetical order. Post your classic and vintage bikes that correspond to that letter, eg; C = Cinelli, Carlton, Ciocc. M = Mercian, Masi, Motobecane. And so on and so forth. The letter of the fortnight should correspond with the marque, not the model. For example; you could post your Tommasini Prestige in the T thread, but not in the P thread. If you're not sure, take a look at the word on your downtube. There's a grey area with people's names - Bruce Gordon, Claud Butler, etc., but I'll leave it up to the owners which thread is preferred. Make sense?

So let's see your Holdsworths, Harry Quinns and Horses...I mean, Herses.

What a great bike. I've never seen a frame that integrates the rack as a structural part of the bike. Engineers can speak up with the right word.

OK here's a Humber, a '52 mens sports and I promise you it will be lovely someday this year.

Hi P!N20, I know you've seen this bike before but it is one that I am very proud to own. It's an Aussie built Hillman. In fact it was built by Gordon Hill in 1984 and it's just a fun bike to ride. I have enjoyed the quick lap around the velodrome on this bike but its usual job (for me) was as a commuter. In my old age it's a fun ride around my home town. I always loved commuting on old track bikes over many years and this was my last track bike to perform commuting duties although I come by it in my latter years of commuting. Over the years I have also owned a number of Hillman's both road and track. This is my last one.

Hillman's has a long and extensive history with the cream of Australian cyclists riding within the highest ranks of world cycling. I feel so blessed to still have one of Gordon's frames. Gordon, by the way, is still building frames so I believe.

This frame was made in 1984 from Reynolds 531 by Gordon Hill. It is 61.5 x 61.5 c to c. I like the 'H' milled into the fork crown. It's just a well built frame. The components are a mix of economical (Sugino/SR/Sunshine) but great quality bits and pieces. A couple of years ago I changed the stem to this Nitto dropped stem as it has 'the' look and teamed up with an Aussie made bar. The saddle is a 'plastic' Cinelli Unicanitor of course.

1951 Hobbs of Barbican.

Bought new by my Wife's Father (from Hobbs) for a tour of the Loire Valley with his sister on a similiar machine. Original saddle(B15), Lytaloy seatpost clamp, spearpoint stem and GB rando handlebar, have original S/A hub, just rebuilt but not fitted and NoS Bayliss Wiley front hub (replacing old original), Original Universal brakes and Williams chainset (just rechromed not fitted. NoS Bluemels 'guards. Frame repainted over 30 years ago but replacement downtube decals impossible to find - despite having an old timer friend who knew the Hobbs.

1954 Hercules & 1952 Humber

Here are two of mine.... a 1954 Hercules and a 1952 Humber. I love the quirky duplex forks on the Humber... currently in the queue for a good clean up and re-fit.

Sorry, I gave my Hercules 12-speed (converted 3-speed with long Sturmey Archer axle and 14-16-18-20 Cyclo cogset) to a friend decades ago. We're past Bianchi and Capo, so I'll see you at Peugeot and then Schwinn.

Hobbs, Hercules and Humber - all fantastic and all bring back memories of my youth. Oh how I wanted a bike like the Humber or Hercules - black with a Sturmey Archer hub. It wasn't to be.

I did, however get a bike along the lines of the Hobbs although it didn't have the fine list of components this fine bicycle has. I finally got my Sturmey Archer 3 speed though.

All wonderful bikes.

My 1968ish Hercules 10 speed, my childhood ride!!! Very faithful she has been. I need to update the rims as the spoke nipples are starting to crack and the steel hoops are beat up bad from my youth.

I found this Huffy Techtra at a garage sale for $5. I figured the Araya rims and newish tires were worth that much. It looked like it had hardly been ridden and always stored inside. With North Road style bars, it actually rides pretty nice.

Ok its not vintage as a 2009 frame but its steel, I built up it from a frameset, it has a bar end shifter -its a 1x9- in friction mode, a B.17 and Nitto Rando bars, yes I am reaching. My workhorse Handsome Devil out of the Twin Cities

Deja vu on that pic and pretty cool to have a Holland in the neighborhood, is that Swamp Creek Rd (one of the many in Eastern PA)?
