Mountain vs Road hub?
Anyone knows the difference between hubs labeled as Mountain vs Road hubs?
I'm looking at buying a DT Swiss 350 hub, and there are 2 options.

Otherwise, it beats me if the axle types and hub widths are the same.
Are they different part numbers, or just the same part listed under different categories?

I wonder if it's a weight thing, i.e. mountain uses heavier/sturdier bearings or something like that.

Take a look at the DT Swiss page for the 350 hubs: https://www.dtswiss.com/en/products/...s/350-classic/
Look at the rear hubs. There are three variants of the 12x142 rear hub with centerlock. The difference between the three is in the free-hub body. One is the SRAM XD driver hub, one is 11 sp Shimano "Road", the other the Shimano-style non-road 11 speed. I think the different between the latter two is that Shimano road cassettes are a tad wider then the MTB 11 speed, so the freehub body needs to also be a tad wider.
However, I do not see DT Swiss calling the hubs themselves "Road" or "MTB". that is likely the sellers description. You just need to know which freehub these have.

Yeah, I believe you are right.
Seller replied that "mountain" is for Shimano HG MTB 9/10/11-speed SRAM 9/10-speed and "Road" is Shimano/SRAM 11-speed (road).

older shimano... road was less sealed, so lower friction from seal drag, than MTB..

Yep, road 11sp has a wider freehub body. MTB 11sp cogs are set inboard a bit -- this is easy to do with a 42t big cog, even with the slight angle of drive side spokes.
