I apologize, peeps. I've been off the grid today. After exams yesterday, the family headed south to the House of Mouse. They stopped at Savannah GA last night and finished the journey this morning. I flew out midday today and joined them. I return on Sunday. They stay through Wednesday then take off on a cruise. When I get back we will examine the Turbo fork in detail.
As for the specs on the Turbo, it is a Frankenbike built for serious racing. Seatpost, crank, derailleurs and brakes are original. Hubs/rims are Campy Record/ Mavic MA40 with a Regina freewheel. Stem/handlebars are Cinelli. The shifters are Simplex Retrofricton.

Got the SL-6400 Tuesday, but only installed today after work. Works great and now have a silver fd shifter with a charcoal rd shifter
The brake lever hoods are much more whiter after cleaning up with WD-40.

Calling spacing / gearing / derailleur guru's . Because I'm not riding any course that has hills these days and @texaspandj knows I love a good 6spd. 13-18 Freewheel Corn Cob , I'm thinking of doing something that might be a waste of time and $ . I would like to go 5spd. 13-17 on the 126mm spaced 86' IM frame with a SIS 6spd. derailleur . Would this work with just slapping on the 5spd. freewheel and adjusting the limit screws , maybe longer screws ? Would I need to re space the frame and wheel ?

If you use the same wheel, simply replace the freewheel and adjust the limit screws.
Have to ask, though...why? If it's because a 17 tooth is the largest you typically need, just stop shifting. The weight loss of a single cog and spacer is hardly a performance enhancer.

Man, I had a line on one of two wheel sets for my '88 Carbon Ironman, but just when I'm gonna make my move they're both GONE. My '88 Carbon hadn't been ridden in forever because of lack of training wheels. Oh I got racing wheels, just No training ones. It doesn't help that it has to be the right look, condition, and most importantly, Right price.
The plan was and is, to ride the '86 Classic Mondays, '87 Miami Vice Wednesdays, '89 Summertime Blues on Fridays and the '88 Carbon on Sundays long ride. My choice is mostly determined by my routes. The thing is, I don't have a "compact" setup (not to be confused with the "seypat setup"). My '86 is 6 speed 52,42, x 13-21. My '87 is 7 speed 52,42 x ?-26, my '88 is 8 speed 53,39 x 12 -28. My '89 is 7 speed 52,42x ?-24. Since I plan on using the '88 for this season, I want to use it for long rides....and will eventually,But for now it's whichever route I'm taking denotes long ride bike.
I got my '86 up and running. That was a tough few days ruined tire, blow out on replacement tire, then broken spoke. Whew! But I found a tan wall in my shed and although not a match, it works. It irks me that they don't match but you can only tell when I stop, hehe. I'm gonna buy new tan walls but right now I'm more concerned with getting a wheelset for my '88. Also, I replaced the spoke with a heavier gauge spoke (that's what I had) and it worked great. It should be noted, I'm not a wheel builder and I can't true a wheel to save my life. However I just tightened the replacement spoke til the wheel was acceptably straight <{seems like a Markwesti joke should be here**. I'm happy to say all is well with my favorite bike, the '86 Classic.
I'm really considering Putting road bars on my '89. That'll do 2 things for me: 1, allows me to ride with the bike group or riding with someone else, 2, keep me from solo rides with it. My problem is I dont have any shifters, well except for @canklecat shifters....maybe I'll just use them (don't tell him). They're 7 speed which is what my '89 is currently anyway. However I have every intention of changing it to 9 speed. Yep, 9 speed dura ace with brifters will certainly do it if I do change to road bars. I'm sounding like I'm a lizard, you know, "Rusty ass and a rambling mind" but honestly more like, a lot of ideas/goals but holes in my pockets. Thank God my wife and daughter are Beautiful, young, and fun or I might be unhappy. But as it is, I think I'm the luckiest guy I know.
It's been 4 years this month since I joined BF. I had previously owned 2 Ironman and had 2 or 3 when I joined. As RT would say I was already "enlightened" before I even heard of bike forums. But for sure I've learned more about them since then. Truth is though, if I had never Gotten any Ironman but the '86 Classic I would've been content....I'm just "contenter" now [sic].
The day may come where I'm not on BF any longer. In fact my now 4 year daughter will be going to pre Kindergarten which is NOT mandatory, so she'll be going only 2 days a week in the fall. That will give me 2 extra days of training for 8 weeks when I finish out my season in late October with a 1/2 Ironman distance Triathlon. In November and December, I'm gonna turn myself into a runner then come January, back to the triple sport.
Currently, I'm weight training, swimming (in the morning), and running (evening) Tue and Thurs. I'm also biking and running (evening) Mon, Wed, and Friday. Saturdays and Sundays it's one sport. All this has got me down to 180 lbs from 196 lbs. I've got 5 more pounds to go to reach my goal weight before our hometown triathlon in 4 weeks.
Well that's what's up with me and my Ironman(s). Here's a pic of my #1 . Keep those freewheels spinning Irongents.

Getting ready to break this one down and do what needs to be done. First, some specs. As found it weighs 21.8-9ish. I was holding it up on my hanging scales and the scales would not lock in. Serial # is N3B3024.
Wheelset is Campy Record with a Regina CX freewheel.
Stem and handlebars are Cinelli
Shifters are Simplex Retrofricton
Saddle is a Motobecane Profile (like I care)
I think the rest is original except for the pedals.
Edit: FD is first Gen Cyclone. RD is first gen Superbe with the sealed bearing pulleys. I think both pulleys are cracked. If they are cracked, I might have to go old school with some Bullseye pulleys! (if I can find them)

I need a ultra thin walled 15mm socket to get these bolts out. Dang it. Guess I'm headed to Harbor Freight for a cheapy to grind down. This is why I use the Allen headed crank bolts.

Back from the socket run. Harbor Freight does not sell individual sockets. Northern Tool does. The Northern Tool socket is thinner and will fit without grinding.

Here are some random pics. If you want to see something particular, let me know. At this point the frame weight is 6.90lbs. If you measure according to the brochure, it's a 21.5 x 21.5 square. Definitely not a 21 or 22" square frame. Check out the BB. Is that factory, or drillium? On to the fork.

Here is the fork. Weight is 1.63lbs as shown. The painted triangle is a good match. Dropouts are Tange TF-R. Stamped with Tange 3C Made in Japan. If you look up from the bottom, it has the same helical ridges as Columbus tubing. It looks like the fork on my Columbus SL Lotus which is also chrome underneath. The Lotus fork has tanges on the inside of the blades. Who knows? On to the BB.
