Bike camping from Denver to Canon City and Westcliffe, Colo?

My wife and I are leaving Denver tomorrow morning, cycling on our tandem self-contained to Westcliffe via Canon City and Texas creek. Does anyone know of good campgrounds along the way? BLM land not far off? A bit north of Colorado Springs, for example? We figure on taking 3 days. Rustic place to pitch tent is all we need.
Thanks!

There aren't too many rustic areas along the Front Range urban corridor any more. There's a commercial campground near the RR tracks south of Castle Rock. I think it's a Jellystone park or something awful like that now. There may be something out in the woods around Monument/Palmer Lake, but nothing stood out last time I rode through there. Maybe look at the Limbaugh Canyon or Red Rocks Road Trailheads for a stealth site.

Thanks. ya, I was eying the edge of what looks like BLM land there very near our route. I wonder if we could just pull into trees and camp there.

Generally "dispersed camping" is allowed on BLM land. Take a look and use your judgment. Don't ignore signage, don't jump fences, get out of sight of the residences, roads and trails in the area.
