Fishing with bike
Using my bike to get to river to fish,
Russian river has limited parking & long wait but
can park & ride bike in a mile.
1st day , caught 6 (Sockeyes...avg 7-8 lbs) loaded on rear rack . (I just remove gills to bleed out)
Bike was way out of balance, popped a wheelie before I got on.
Yesterday, 2nd trip 10 fish, headed & gutted to fit in pack,
forced pack forward as much as possible, better ride but still a load. Still awkward balancing.
Saw a guy riding in with a cooler on a kiddie bike trailer, now that’s the ticket .
now lookin.

Very cool! Get a trailer and you could carry a little camp chair and thermos as well.

I miss my Fenwick. I traded it for a new 9 wt. line for anther rod. Big mistake. What fly(s) were hot? My son has been bugging me to go up and now I know we should bring our bikes and the trailer.
edit: oh. That Russian River. A bit of a drive from SoCal. Nice fish.

1/4 mile down to the river, down trails/steps,
then I walk up river bank (mostly in the water & around rocks ) to fishing spots.
Hardest part is walking back to the bike with 10 fish, a pack full +.
Years ago I'd run up river, fill the pack & run back.
Now I amble up, & stumble back, several breaks walking up the hill to the bike rack.

Fishing with bike
caught my interest, & you hooked me in...
Road my beach cruiser once to reach a fishing shot, otherwise it would have been a couple mile walk. Since it was planted trout, light spinner gear, Power bait and a little cooler worked out fine.

Are there still salmon in Willow Creek? I remember the #1 rule at the Russian: if a bear wanted your spot, you gave it to him!

Very cool!
My dad (in da middle of da mitten) was just telling me about guys in his area riding bikes to a local fishing spot next to the rail trail.
Could "Fishin' Bikes" be the next BIG THING?

That's a big part of how my love of cycling began... As a kid, getting to different fishing spots, (and the beach occasionally). I had those pannier type wire baskets on the rear and put the rod over my handlebars like a jousting pole with the butt between the basket wires.
It sure as heck beat walking!

Good thinking!!! With that setup you can even take some catch home.
Not long ago I rigged my MB for fishing, and I ride my bike nightly and don't have much attached to it but it works really well finding out of the way suburban honey holes that are inaccessible by car.
Depending on how well equipped you want to be a minimalist approach is what I took, a rod holder (I used a plastic bulkhead holder secured with electrical conduit clamps) and a frame mount bag for some tackle and of course water.

My younger brother got the angler gene, I got the bike gene.
Around here multi-pole, vertical. When rolling looks like a shrimp trawler (nets stowed).
Anyone running Shimano/Shimano?

The "old timey" WALD 139 front basket rack is still being made today and you can get them for approx $30 and free shipping....see #173883530461 on the bay or see amazon.
The old PLETSCHER rear racks -and- the BLACKBURN rear racks are very useful.
There is an ancient Child Carrier from the late seventies that IS REALLY DANGEROUS FOR CHILD CARRYING BY TODAY'S STANDARDS, but it is amazingly useful for Utility Duty thanks to it's strong frame and it's large plastic/fiberglass molded high back seat.
It is the "ORIGINAL HIGH BACK CHILD CARRIER by Troxel (beat up example...see the bay#133031061646......these things you can find FREE or never more than $5 at flea mkt/garage sale/craigs, as they are Obsolete/dangerous for their original purpose of carrying kids.....as the single belt strap really doesn't secure the child much better than no strap.................well it was the seventies and bike safety was all about reflectors and flags..... no helmets then or any thoughts of what might happen if bounced or catapulted out, or if the bike went down... ....just hang on....be cool, hang ten and everything would be alright, yeah....was the mindset at the time. Schwinn carried one of these in their 1978 catalog with slight mounting differences....you can view it here https://waterfordbikes.com/SchwinnCa...0/1978_56.html
HERE ARE A FEW Youtube VIDEOS to Inspire you to do your best MacGyvering!
Fishing Pole Holder
Milk Crate attachment to Pletscher rack/Blackburn rack, etc
What can be done with materials such as Shopping Carts and ancient Golf Pull Carts(trolleys) and pneumatic $5 rubber wheels from Harbour Freight, etc

a very good thread!
I will be doing a fishing/wild camping cycling tour of Ireland (sea fishing) in May next year. I us live on the beach in South Africa for several years, and fished most days
I will be using my touring bike (Miyata 1000) with front and rear Ortlieb pannier bags and with a Hilleberg tent. I will be using an Ugly stik 4 piece fishing rod aswell as a lighter rod and reel to fish from the rocks.
I am taking things one step further by using a drone to drop my baits. I will be getting a Mavic 2 drone and the fishing attachment. It takes fishing to a new dimension
