Thanks. It cleaned up pretty good for a 1987 model.

Looks like the precursor to today's light weight TIG welded steel frames.

Thanks your comments, yes there were probably hundreds of specialist bike builders and the 1930's, 1940's and 1950's were the heyday of the Club Riders, cars were too expensive for most people everyone cycled, of course it could not last and towards the 1960's it tailed off and the big boys (Raleigh) bought up all the competitors but it still left the small specialist builders and some are still going like Mercian of Derby who still build tailor made frames/bikes to order plus offering a restoration service, there are others too like Condor & Ribble and many more one man band frame builders who today are undergoing a revival as cycling has become more popular.

Funny. 3 reasons: I'm old, the heat index was already over 100 degrees, and my bottom bracket started telling me it was time to shut it down until it was serviced. Looks like I'll be spinning miles on my flat bar Fuji until I have the chance to address the bottom bracket.

Cheers!

Ringing more. Left knee still a mess.

Riding through/near one of our last old growth forrests. Having a blast this summer, finally getting to put some kms on the legs and shed some pounds. Notice how poorly my right knee was set during replacement 4 years ago. Oh well. I'm riding again but clipless/clips and straps are in my past. Flat pedals only. Easy.

Edit. Garage sale '93 CrossRoads that will be my gravel grinder. I paid the $60 and the seller gave me my money back because she could tell I was excited and she didn't need it. Imagine. Great community I live in.

Hey I finally got a picture of me with my bike!

The bicycle is the very first production Norther Klickitat Pass. The location is Pawtuxet Village, RI. The photographer is none other than Brian Chapman of Chapman Cycles.

Me on my 13th birthday, 1969. I know, I know, just squint! I managed to get these images from the original slides, using the camera on my Mac. Maybe I'll find a better way to digitize them soon.

That Mercier was stolen the following year, but I got a replacement... about a month ago! I didn't do it for any 50th anniversary celebration, it just sort of turned out that way. I have a photo of the "new" bike, and fortunately I'm not in the photo. Maybe I'll get to that down the road (consider this a tease).

While I don't have a man-crush on T-mar, I certainly have a crush on his near-robotic, encyclopedic knowledge. Has (s)he posted here yet? I think I've gone through all Godzillion pages, and perhaps I missed it.

Me riding the Italian steel on my first bike race yesterday.
The Jersey isn't mine, which you can tell by the size.
Additional me with Freddy Maertens today.

Found an old BITD pic from the late 1990s. Pretty sure I was running 8sp Ultegra with brifters at the time.

Still have the bike. It's been through many iterations including 9sp, single speed, and 1x7. Currently, it's set up as my "hill bike" with a 50/34 and 8sp (12-28).

I think the fellow with the user name that is more like a license plate ID wins this post! Excellent black & white cycling image and he's wearing a leather skull cap. Thanks for sharing. Lots of fun bikes and riders pictured.

PS - I'm new & haven't figured out this clunky response system yet

This is a photo from the Vuelta de Independencia in the Dominican Republic in 1993. This appeared in the June 93 edition of Bicycling Magazine. At the time I was an amateur riding for HDK Cycles in VA, but I went down to the DR riding as part of a composite team put together by MVC out of the Washington DC area.
