Does cooking fish twith the head still attached make it taste better? Curious on the reasoning behind that.

Some fish have tasty cheek and/or head meat. I also think it looks better. One downside is that you have to watch out for the eyeballs. I nearly ate one earlier this year.

So here is some data/info from doctor's visit:
Weight (with shoes/clothes/full pockets) 145 pounds (nekked I think I am 141 these days)
BP 120/74
HR 52
HCT 39.2 (clearly NOT taking epo)
HDL 84
LDL 75
Glucose 113
So my "good cholesterol" is higher than my "bad" one. It's not commonly seen but it's healthy.

I expect it will stay borderline but if it gets worse I will have to go on a low carb diet. Sad!

I am certain I have one (or more) genes that put me at higher risk for Type 2 DM. My dad has it. It tends to run in families. Typically if you are not too fat you will only have a borderline sugar level. If you get fat the sugar goes above 125 and you have diabetes.

BITD the cutoff for "normal" was 115. So my 113 would have been normal 20+ years ago.
Since there is an epidemic of diabetes they want to catch people "at risk" for diabetes (like me) and we know people with a fasting glucose of 100-125 are at much higher risk of getting diabetes compared to those under 100.
So they dropped the cutoff from 115 to 100.
They may be coming for you next.
p.s. "They" means the public health people, their intentions are generally good but sometimes they mess up, like the whole BMI fiasco.

The diabetes and obesity are so out of control in this country it’s obscene.

Agree. But plenty of people are super heavy and do not have diabetes. You have to have the genes for it and the obesity. I have the gene but not the obesity. So there's hope.

Hey folks. Just about 3 weeks to go until the first baby (a girl) arrives, which explains my absence round these parts. I've been riding every day per usual, but am fully expecting that to dwindle into a very occasional half hour on the trainer during the first 6 months (or 6 years, tbd). Will report back once she's made the US women's olympic team for road racing.
Oh, and in bike related news... I finally got myself some higher end shoes (Giro Factor Techlace), and boy howdy do they feel amazing. I've been using various lower-end Giro shoes for years, but having a super light, stiff, and molded shoe definitely feels good, even if there's probably 0 measurable performance difference.

I’ve been limiting carbs since my father got sick and died slow and ugly from multiple complications of DM.

Since I've lost 30# and cut out as much sugar as I care to like potatoes, processed foods, etc., I'm running between 95 and 100 on my once a week stick that I do every Monday. My next A1C isn't until October but I anticipate a pretty decent one as my A1C is usually better than my fasting tests. My last fasting test at the doc's in April was 128 so I've come down a lot. My A1C was 6.4 at the same time.
For the record, everybody in my immediate family has/had Type 2 diabetes. I'm the only one who has managed to avoid medications and probably due to my cycling.
BTW, my test strips just expired. What happens when they go bad? Time for new ones, I guess.

I am not quite ready to go there, but if the sugar creeps up (which is quite possible) I may have to take my own medicine, so to speak.
