I’ve cycled past Ross Road for nearly 20 years. Today on a whim I turned down it and was rewarded with a very quiet and peaceful 3 1/2 miles of gravel and hardpack. This is the sort of ride I had in mind when I ordered my Vincitore fixed gear - though when I went to take a drink I was reminded of why the old guys preferred handlebar-mounted bottle cages.

Did 73 miles up to Lake Bluff. Another Bright July day with temps in the 90s.
Recent changed the stem from a 120 to a 130. I got this Nitto/Specialized stem in 1994. It was on a $5 franken bike I got at a police auction. It's been on at least 5 other bikes prior to this.

I rode as far north as Lake Bluff yesterday as well, though it's a bit closer for me. More like 44 miles. Still, it was hot and I was fairly well wiped out the rest of the day.

Shakedown ride on the “favorite” bike. Stopped by Northcoast joes place to thank him again for the donated Brooks saddle and inquire about nose angle. Seems I had it right so we went out for a nice loop along the shores of Lake Erie. Good c&v morning. Cheers, Kevin.

Did you see any of the Lake Bluff Crit? Saw it by chance. It was early so I saw the 4/5s. One fast dood and a bunch of filler.

70 mile round trip from Ocean City, NJ to the Cape May lighthouse on Saturday. Moderate temps and no wind made for an excellent ride. I was missing about 100 calories in my system and was forced to soft pedal the last few miles as I was spent at that point. Recovered with some soft pretzels.

I haven't posted much here lately, just been going back and forth to work mostly. But today my sweetie and I took the ye old vintage tandem out to Concord and back. We also stopped at a farm stand to buy some local peaches, black raspberries, and a few other goodies. Somehow they survived the ride home. So did we, despite the 90degF temperature and 70degF dew point. It was a steamah'. Still, a very good steamah. 41.5 miles.

Did a quick 20 or so down to Marymoor Park with my buddy Jacob this afternoon after we solved his rear brake issue. Weather was clear and in the upper 70s and gorgeous.

Cell phone snap of the bike doing better than me after a 280 miles in 6 days test ride on Delmarva and the Jersey Shore. Bike was built up from a frame and if I had a clone he would have been chasing me down the road with a torque wrench as I headed out. I don't think I'd ever ridden more than 35 mile in a day before. There's a Koga Miyata City Liner under all that. The frame is a lighter weight hybrid and the handling was wretched at first, but was much better after I ditched 10 pounds of stuff and moved as much weight as possible to the front panniers.

Inspired by the pics of @thinktube's lovely orange Schwinn, the Dutch Batavus got a call to duty. Sorry my pics lately have been boring, I'll make a plan. But just riding the mundane routes is sufficient (and convenient) motivation to Just Do It.
