Just hit it with a bit of proofide and you're good to go.
For real though, this thing looks like a burnt pancake.

Fixer-upper for the handy DIY'er - Marktplaats
Description:
"Bike spent some time in a canal. Pick-up in Amsterdam"
While probably still rideable, I expect this bike to house a number of organisms at the moment. There is however quite some rust around the dropouts and the seat tube so at the very least this will be a full strip, clean and repaint.
Saddle looks better than @ncrnelson 's example though.

I've actually been wanting to start seriously looking into various forms of conversion of leg-crank energy, whether it's kinetic like this (blender, chopper, etc) or potential (storage battery charge), as I hope that after retiring, we'll be living as close to off-grid as possible.

I heard a (possibly apocryphal) story about a dad who plugged the family tv into a stationary cycle rigged as a generator. Nobody could watch tv unless somebody was working out
Bikes are okay, I guess.

Yup, I heard that too. It's possible I spread it here and you read it. Anyway, the story I heard was that the kids developed an economy among themselves. "I'll pedal for your show if you pedal for mine." Dad was happy. Kids got healthy.
