Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yes. It seemed somehow connected to the big announcement about the password reset. Not sure if connection was intentional or coincidental, however.

Correction. CycleOps was always a Saris brand. SRAM bought the power meter (PowerTap) business off of Saris, and Saris decided to brand all their remaining CycleOps business under Saris brand.

Back to regular programming.

Had a fun group ride last night, but was hit with the realization that my Wed night group rides are almost done for the year. Bummer as I feel like I'm finally rounding in to decent shape. Last night, I was feeling particularly cheeky and decided to ride off the front a mile out from a hotly contested city sign. Covered the mile in under 2 min, which is probably my fastest flat mile, but was still picked off by a guy who had a great leadout. One of these days I'll hold 'em off.

Kudos.

Our rides are not really races but we sometimes get competitve on long climbs. On yesterday's ride we had a really long, tough climb early on. I know the climb well and paced myself and did not worry that the rabbits were out in front. Toward the end I put on the afterburners and cruised past the guys who went hard too early. That didn't suck.

I'm never going to be a climber, but I've finally come appreciate pacing climbs (in as much as you can call them that in my region) with the power meter. I used to loathe climbs before, but I sometimes seek them out on my own and I'm regularly getting PRs without killing myself. I'm not sick enough to do repeats, though. Maybe in another 10 lbs.
