Road Test/Bike Review (1978) SCHWINN Superior
Never heard of this bike until now, but certainly because I didn't catch this short recent thread: https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...-superior.html
Never would have thought that 150 lbs could define a "bigger rider", not even in 1978.

I had a 1978 Schwinn Superior, bought when I started working at the local Schwinn shop. I liked that bike a bunch and I'm sorry I sold it. I'm so sorry I tracked down a similar frame and turned it into a resto-mod: https://www.flickr.com/photos/ohpv/a...57642470085394

Beautiful bike! You've taken excellent care of it.
OK, we've seen the Green and the Black, now who wants to show us one in Flamingo?

I gave it to some professionals and threw money at them.
I had some extra cash thanks to a volunteer session as a lab rat.

The fillet-brazed CrMo frames were always Schwinn's sleeper models. Extra points on this one for a nice alloy crankset and that great SunTour rear derailleur. That black with brown saddle, tape, and toolbag looks really sharp.

I noticed that the article was written by some guy named Gary Fisher. That name sounds vaguely familiar. Is he a 'big' guy; over 150 lbs?

He's 6-foot + an inch or two. I'm not sure he's my size (6-foot-4). I've often wondered if his size influenced his design choices for mountain bikes: large aluminum tubes, 1 1/4" headsets, rear suspension, etc. where Tom Ritchey (a smaller person) chose smaller steel tubes, 1"headsets, and hardtails.
