I broke an Ultegra CN-6700, but it was clear there was a design defect and lots of riders broke them. They changed the design and renamed it CN-6701.
When the chain broke, it bent and ripped the RD off in the process. Sad!

I have never broken a chain or cog but I have broken a front spoke when sprinting. That was a long time ago. Much before the era of lightweight, elegant and aero seatposts.

Are there three small spacers and one large spacer, or are there only the three small spacers.
Can't post pics right now.

There are currently 1 large and 3 small (prolly 1.5cm and 5mm each, respectively).
If you're comfy, leave it. If you feel you could go lower, remove one or two small spacers at a time, ride, assess and continue to adjust until you're happy. If you should happen to remove all of the spacers and still feel that you could move down more, you could replace that tall heasdset cover with a shorter one.

I'm not asking how many spacers I should use for fit purposes. I just want to know if there are three small ones and one larger one.
To review. The difference in drop from my saddle to the handlebars between the new bike and the old bike is about 2 inches. I was hoping to use all the spacers but then that leaves me with the spacers on the top and there could be some sort of steerer tube "explosion" issue. if there are only three small spacers I might not bother.
