Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

These guys have some. https://www.utahtrikes.com/PROD-11617955.html

I've dealt with them before. No problems.

There's also a forum devoted to recumbents which likely has discussions of velomobiles.

Thanks for that link. The yellow one they sell seems like it might do the trick.

Apparently there is an electronic version. I wonder if the velomobile forums (surely that's a thing) are all going crazy over the prospect of the e-velomobiles (they really need a shorter word) taking over.

Good news/bad news. Good news is weather for tomorrow looks good, and I am leading a 69 mile ride with my club-mates.

Bad news is Sunday looks super-wet. Washout. No ride.

Yeah. I am going to visit a friend who is shut in due to a recent knee replacement.

The Philly Bike Club has its fall weekend in Hanover. Looks like Sunday will be a washout.

They come up in the classifieds at Bentrider occasionally. Be sure to warm your wallet up first.

That would be correct, but if the two values are different then you don't have a mode, then you have to rely on the mean.

Hey I need a reality check, at least from those who are employed.

I just saw a patient who I have known for over 15 years. He said he was probably going to see a different doctor in the future. His reason? His wife (a nurse) interviewed for a job with my organization (different office) and was given an offer but told that health benefits have a 60 day "wait," and he thought that was unfair and mean.

I asked my office manager and she seems to think this is pretty much standard operating procedure for the 21st century.

Any thoughts or feedback?

I told the patient I am sorry about the situation and respect his decision if he wants to get his care elsewhere. He was pretty firm about how he felt.

No idea what's customary in the real world, but what's 60 days of COBRA, assuming she was insured before?

Exactly, but in this case they felt that was unfair. I honestly don't know current market conditions to know what's typical.

I had my own shock this week when I got an $800 bill for my share of a $25,000 scan billed to my Medicare advantage plan. No idea what insurance paid.

As always when I saw my share of the charges, I thought, "What do poor people do?"

Qualify for Medicaid, get "unreimubursed" care, or go without. It's the uninsured/underinsured folks above the Medicaid cutoff who get the most thorough screwing, as a class.

The "charges" in our current healthcare system are often inflated by a factor of 10 or more. It's stupid and dysfunctional. Sad!

Not at the railroad. You are in from Day 1. Same with the pension plan and 401(K). (I believe the union 401(K) plan has a 60-day waiting period.) But I have been here since 2001, so I don't know what things are like elsewhere.

For different flavours of velomobile try velomobiel.ro . They have a US dealer in Texas. An Alpha7 weighs about 21-22kg. And will lighten your wallet significantly.
