I would certainly try that first. The alloy Weinmann's are fairly easy to come by and usually cheap enough so not a big gamble $$$ wise. They spanned a long time and I think were largely unchanged for the whole run just not sure when they started. They came on a lot of Schwinn's and many others but might be hard to find the super long reach ones.

Wanted: Long reach Suntour Cyclone or other high end long reach side pull Japanese brakes, that are not Shimano, (not that there's anything wrong with them)`
To trade: Short reach Suntour Cyclone calipers,Mint Shimano 620x, 6400(tri color, long and short reach)` calipers. various Campy NR & SR parts.

Can trade whole brake sets if you prefer rather than calipers.

@USAZorro, I find the old Raleigh steel side-pulls to be just fine. Have you tried them?

Tom,

That's what's on there now. I know the pads are an issue, but I've also looked down at the front calipers while braking (and while simulating a hard brake while pushing the bike forward). The flex is disconcerting, but I think I'm going to try going with new pads first. Any recommendations? Is here something that's fresh, black, has a good bit of surface area and doesn't look like it crash landed in 2003?

ISO BOTTOM BRACKET CUP
I have two mis-matched Campy bottom bracket cups - one from a standard BB and one from a lightweight BB. They were used on a bike and apparently worked fine together, but I’d like to have a matched set. If anyone has a corresponding match for either one of these cups, let me know. Thanks!

Is there an easy way to tell the difference between the lightweight and not? I have an orphan adjustable cup that's 1.370"x24 tpi, but it might be just the same as the one you've already got:

The difference is not "lightweight" versus "standard," but Record versus Nuovo Record. The thinner, unrifled cups are Record cups; the thicker, rifled cups are Nuovo Record. @AeroGut's cup appears to be a Nuovo Record cup. The rifling on the Nuovo Record cups is intended to prevernt contamination from entering the bottom bracket.

N.B. Record bottom bracket spindles are different from Nuovo Record spindles to account for the difference in cup thickness. Once you have matching cups, you need to be sure you have the proper spindle for the cups you have.

I do, and can swap out your left cup for the same in a "thick" cup, with the rifling. PM on the way.

Gee, I don't know. Maybe there were good lots and bad ones? Make sure the center bolt is tight enough, though you have to leave a small amount of play. I can't explain why mine work so well. Maybe my hands are stronger? I doubt it.

What's the exact reach you need for both front and rear? Longer than 57mm?

No, It's a normal long reach. 1973 Teledyne Titan. I have a set of 1st Gen DA that are completely appropriate, but I don't like the QRs. This is about build choices not function per se.

My daughter now wants upright bars (but not flat MTB style) on the Nishiki I built up for her.

Thanks

Joe, I'm in the Boston area and have a new set of V-O Porteur bars and, I believe, a set of Weinmann/DiaCompe levers to fit. Will your daughter do the conversion work herself or is she looking for someone to do that, too?

Has she considered a set of those Tektro (or other brand) "interrupter" levers for the riding on the tops of the bars? Y'know the sort of 21st-Century answer to "turkey" levers, the difference being they actually WORK and are safe.

ISO: 47cm lugged frame for front parts

I'm thinking of doing a head tube "section" with about 4" of TT and DT attached.

Bike hit the overhead garage. Not my bike.

Also thinking of repairs to include couplers for travel. Thoughts welcome.

I believe the issue is the handlebar not the brakes - but thanks for the idea

Thanks for the offer - let me check with her on the bars - I'm guessing she is looking for something with a bit more rise.

As far as the work goes, she will need to go the LBS (Cambridge) because she apparently didn't inherit the tinkering gene.

She might want to pay a visit to Broadway Bikes in Cambridge: broadwaybicycleschool.com

They should have what she needs.

Looking to trade these T.A. Pro 3-arm chainrings and bolts for a Campy SR rear derailleur, preferably equally clean, and I'll do a backflip then chug a beer if it is 1978-1979 year.

Or a Coppi-pato'd stem or seat post, or both (plus some extra from my side).
