Look, none of this belongs in this subforum, but as long as you've gone there, does "strong Family Values" include putting children in cages?

What is going on here, fellas?!? What the hell does any of this have to do with professional cycling, and more specifically ...Sagan and his future??

Good-grief.

Oh, good, we're back to talking about racing.

Sagan is an absolute stand-out, and both his feats on the road (and cobbles) and his charisma have been very good for cycling. He's unquestionably the best of his era. Going back in time, I have less expertise.

But I wouldn't be surprised if van der Poel eclipses Sagan. That young man has LEGS.

Agreed about VdP, but I wonder if we'll ever see another rider with the all-around ability to win GT and major one day races again. Cadel won the WC and the Tour, but I'm thinking those days might be over unless the 3 week races move back toward an all-rounder over the climbing specific events we've seen lately.

Valverde - the most under-appreciated rider of our era- won the Vuelta and podiumed on maybe half a dozen GT. He's won the WC. And hehas also won classics (Liege-Bastone-Liege, Fleche Wallone), multiple times.

Valverde doesn’t have the pure bike handling skills of Peter. Still a great rider.

What’s with the CA bashing?
Why won’t the OP say in what utopia he resides?
Peter loves CA (must be a smart guy).

I'd be sad if he retired but he does a lot of things on the side - he hosts Fondos and of course he wrote a book. Why wait until a big crash when he can't do anything afterwards?

I agree on both counts. I was just responding to the comment that there are no longer many riders who can compete for the GC of grand tours and wins in the Classics.

BTW, van der Poel DOES have Sagan's bike handling skills. Check out his dominance in the CX World Cup races this fall. And this

And while I'm at it, Rajflyboy, I suggest you pay more attention to the CX world, if you don't already. I know you don't like the role of teamwork and domestiques in road racing. Those hardly matter in CX, where it's bike handling and shear power of the individual that wins the day.

i like the CX racing and I like Van Der Poel. He could be my favorite rider when Peter goes home to spend more time with his family.

I love Sagan. His attitude is infectious. But for the love of all things holy, DON'T give him a commentator job when he retires.
