Some of the guys in my group ride have a peloton, I never gave it much thought why they have those vs another trainer. The subscription fee is enough to turn me off. The price of the actual bike doesn’t seem too bad when looking at the price of other indoor trainers. Adding a bike on top of the indoor trainers can be pretty steep.
My goal would be to overall ride outside year round. The only reason an indoor trainer appeals to me, is once I go back to work I’m only home two days a week. It’s gunna significantly impact how much I will able to ride. And if the wx is poor when I am home I would like to be able to still train on those two days that I am home.
When I’m at work, I plan on renting bikes when I can, but I’ve yet to get a clear idea on how much that might cost me. And if all else fails using the stationary bike in the hotel. sounds dreadful
I am also considering a folding bike. However most others in my profession frown heavily upon this, and I’m worried without a good enough case it getting destroyed being thrown in the back of the the plane repeatedly.

Skipped the trainer and hit the road for 20 miles. 22°A and a 10 mph NW wind.
It was a two baklava day and lobster gloves.

Im about to change companies and aircraft. I’ll have to see what the new companies policies are. The plane I fly now any extra space is taken by the jump seat, which is almost always filled.

I don't know the details, but both he AND his wife often flew together (she is a pilot too, they are both former Navy pilots), so maybe the two of them worked out a deal to find a spot for the bike? I hope you find a solution but agree you will have to sound out the new job before you figure out a strategy.

Would there be an issue with this being my main road bike? If I purchased one of these I would bring it with me to work, but I would use it at home as well until I could save up for another bike. I’ll do more fact finding. I guess my question are these meant to ride as many miles as a regular road bike.
The calfee ones are sick but way above my pay grade. The richie ones look doable.

I had to look it up. So 2k+ for the bike and then 39 bucks a month? Honestly, it may seem like a lot, but I have what was a retail $4500 USD bike on a 500 dollar trainer. I bought it for much less (incentives from Trek for bike shop employees) and it's not even worth like 1500 bucks now, but still. I would imagine that even if a person bought the bike and subscribed year round, it wouldn't be near the cost of your road bike+mountain/cross bike+helmet+bottles+bibs+jerseys+shoes+pedals and on and on.
And yeah, to clarify: My Dura Ace eqipped Carbon Domane sits on the trainer. It hasn't seen pavement in months. My aluminum Crockett with 105 *gasp* 10 speed does all the real miles. One of these days I'll go somewhere with real hills and free the Domane from its prison.

A colleague commutes on an SS coupled bike. Check lynskey. I’m pretty sure they have/had a somewhat reasonable road touring frame with couplers at some point. It was called backroads or some such.
