^^^^ Hmm, looking again at the (beautiful...) plumage, he does look different from the falcon posted by @Slightspeed . I just took him to be a peregrine based on his proximity to the power plant. Evidently they're okay sharing territory.

And yeah, we once had a peregrine (I think this one really was a peregrine) swoop into our back yard and grab some little songbird on the wing. He dined on it on a limb of an old box elder we had back there, with several of our cats watching with rapt attention from the upstairs windows. Somewhere around the house I have an old Hi-8 tape of it, I should digitize.

Edit - I think this one really is Melvin (or maybe Trudy...). Plumage more closely resembles Slightspeed 's pic. This was about 8 months later, but he was much higher up on a wire over the street, much dimmer light, obviously poor conditions by comparison, lots more noise in the pic.

I’m in Gila Bend, Arizona now, and when I woke up, there were at least 100 long-tailed blackbirds, on the electrical wires above me. These are some noisy birds, even one alone, so this noise was pretty bizarre. 😁

The backlit photo makes it difficult to definitely identify. Around here we get sharp shinned hawks hunting our feeders. All of the peregrins that I have seen were in open land.

Well, it's a half-block from the nest that's been used by a family of peregrines for several generations (see link above). And yeah, we do get other raptors right in town (see red-tail pic above), but I don't think it's a wide variety.

I dunno what this bird is, but it’s pretty cool to see. Bright orange, except it’s head & wings, which are brown. I’ve been sitting at a picnic table reading, and this must be his tree, right by it. Sorry I couldn’t figure out cropping yet, on my iPhone, he’s just left of center there. 🙂

OK, he’s probably an Orange-headed Tanager, which I’ll copy here from what bird.com. He looks kinda like a cardinal, & kinda like an oriole, but he’s neither. 🤔😁

I rode down to Hastings, Minnesota on a Saturday night and found myself in the midst of a car show. There were the usual American Muscle Cars, a few Antique Classics, and some really rare (in USA) foreign classics parked all up-and-down the main street of Old Hastings.

The only reason I am posting this here is because I managed to photograph an image that captured the spirit of an era that we all hold dear, for whatever reason. This Jaguar XK120 has one of the most iconic front ends I've ever seen on an automobile. Mid-to-late `50s is the best I can do for dating it. But it suits this thread perfectly, don't you think?

We were riding on Assateague Island yesterday and found that the tide was around 26" below normal, so we decided to dismount and take a walk on the bayside beach. Here is a tree that is usually 15 to 20 feet from shore. I think it may be a choke cherry since cherries and cedars are predominate on the shore line. If you look closely you can see barnacles on the roots of the tree - most of them were alive, but tightly closed.
