Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

As soon as you forget to un-clip in front of a bus full of people, you can consider yourself a serious cyclist.

So gauging effort on a ride (or fake ride) tends to be basically impossible. I did the London loop with the big hill last night on the zwift and just felt tired and crap the whole ride. Suffered through it and when Iooked at Strava, I actually PR'ed almost every section of the climb. It was nice to see a good result, but still hard to wrap my mind around why it felt like such a crappy effort when it was actually my best to date on that climb.

Going to see the chiropractor today. I will find out how imbalanced my muscle tightness is. I feel like one leg does more work than the other. I should start doing single leg drills on the road.

Call to pay a medical bill. After hearing "Your call is very important to us. blah blah blah" at least six times I am told I am being transferred. After several rings I get a voice mailbox. I am told to leave certain details and my call will be returned within 24 hrs. My message: "24 hrs.? I guess my call wasn't very important like the recording said it was."

They can wait to get their money by mail.

Calling the doctor's office is the worst.

Customer service has been broken for a very long time. Thankfully, here in Mexico, the meaning of the term is not understood, so we don't expect it.

I am pretty sure the billing and payment customer service function is outsourced because it's an 800 number. Hadn't called in a while so I had forgotten how bad it is.

You have energy issues too? I have an appointment tomorrow with a witch doctor naturopath to try to address my fatigue, low energy problems. It usually hits hardest in the spring, I'm trying to get ahead of it this year. (Well, actually it's been spring since December, but that's another story.)

I'm chronically borderline anemic. And there are other RA-related fatigue problems, which even witch doctor probably couldn't explain.

I'd think it would be worst in the winter, but maybe that's just me.

In my case the heat has a marked and profound affect on my energy level, which is one reason I prefer the cold weather. Sooner or later somebody will figure out what's going on.

This winter has been rather mild, and we just got lucky with avoiding this latest round of snow.

It's still cold enough to be obnoxious. And we're about to enter mud season. But I am looking forward to seeing budding trees here in a month or so

Saw a jerk dad in Whole Foods yesterday. Son (looks to be about 6) accidentally runs over dad's foot with their empty cart. Dad explodes and pushes the cart at the kind, yanking it back just before it hits him and yells and the kid. He then rides the kid for a couple of minutes about the incident with a mean look on his face. Kid is in tears by now. While dad's back is turned, big sis, who appears to be about 8, gives him a comforting hug that seems to whisper "I o.k.. Dad is an ass."

Of course, I don't have kids. So what do I know?
