I recently found this Nishiki Cresta GT. I've been wanting an '80s tourer, this was the first one to come along and even though I swore I wouldn't buy any more 25"/64cm bikes this one came home with me. We'll see what happens after a few changes. I've already added a Jim Blackburn front rack and VP clipless pedals. Shorter stem and aero levers with barcons to come.

Miele UNO SL converted to cantilever brakes and added brazeons for rear rack attachment (seatstay) and third water bottle brazeons under the downtube.
I need take some images of this bicycle in it's current configuration with Campagnolo Mirage 9-Speed Ergo levers and Mirage rear derailleur.
Miele MTB converted togravle road/rough paved roads touring.

Here are 2 I would use, a Fuji Stratos from 2012, welded Fuji Elios custom butted for Fuji and the other is my 81 Centurion Pro-Tour.

The one I have is an XC (I believe)- and one of the nicest shifting RDs I’ve had my hands on.
Score a pair of bearinged pulleys- but leave the little one, it’s rarely in use.

Damn that Photobucket with it's 'hostage' ransom demands... I had posted my 'vintage tourers' before, so here's a set of NON-hostage photos
All I have to offer today are these two that I still have...
1984 Univega Gran Tourismo, as received... Now wearing a bunch of different parts, but no current photo
and...
My '75 Fuji S-10S that I actually took 'on tour' BITD. That was BEFORE the current triple crank or 6-speed Ultra-spaced freewheel. ...and yes, with that Pletscher rack with (heaven forbid) rear Cannondale panniers and a seat bag only. MY GOD, how did I ever survive such touring blasphemy?
That's what we did 'back then'. Just Ride!

My 1986 SCHWINN PASSAGE
Here`s my 1986 Schwinn PASSAGE. I`m the original owner, and I like the bike more today then I did when purchased!
I did make a crazy adjustment to the stem. I`m elderly with a Very bad back. And, having the bars close and up high is the only way I can still ride.

Absolutely! I agree wholeheartedly. I've posted this bike elsewhere, but the build was intended as a rough-roads and trails tourer, which fits the subject matter of this thread. But it was this post by @roadsnakes that inspired me to post it here because this is the bike that makes me feel most like a kid. I can ride this thing all day long, no hurry, just cruise around and look at stuff, take photos, indulge in whatever refreshments I find on offer... and inevitably I find another bike nut who appreciates the C&V aspect of lugged steel frames.
