One Step Closer to “Almost Finished”
Still room for improvement: Long Cage
Long Cage-I finally got around to dealing with a niggling rear derailleur issue. When I started this New Albion build in 2017, I had accumulated many of the components before settling on a frame. In that was an old Campy VELOX r/d. Heavy yes, but actually with a nice function, and I really loved the red “C” bolt caps. But after it was running I found the VELOX lacked the chain wrap capacity and the throw adjustment necessary to handle 8 cogs. I couldn’t run the 28t and 26t cogs with the 44t and 48t chainrings. Irksome but not really a big problem. But still.... so in the interim I purchased a set of Soma long cage Campy conversion plates that effectively convert a Campy Nuovo/Super Record derailleur into a long-cage Campy Rally touring derailleur. Sat on the plates for a good couple of years though before finally trying them out. I took the Pat‘83 Nuovo Record from my ‘84 Bianchi, swapped the cages and installed it on the New Albion. Perfect! Shifts beautifully, looks great, chain wrap to spare, handles the throw for 8 cogs and keeps chain tension in the whole range. An ‘84 Nuovo Record is on the way to fill the hole left on the Bianchi.

I removed, cleaned and reinstalled the throttle bodies/MAF sensors on my Mazda 5 and Chevy van. That has to be the cheapest/easiest, bang for the buck tune up in the automotive industry. 11 bucks for the gaskets and a throttle body/MAF sensor cleaner combo sold at Walmart. How to videos online. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.
Oh, you're talking abouts bikes. I have a Centurion Turbo, an Ironman, and a Trek 412 I have to finish up. After that, a Lotus Legend single speed that will go back to it's original form. Long range project is a 72 Condor.
I keep all of my bikes at my place of business. Since we have this issue called COV19, I will be hunkering down for the next couple of weeks or months. I will have plenty of time to finish the tinkering. That's a silver lining in the situation we are in.

Does this count? Mice in the garage drove me to concoct a device that would attract and dispatch them continually and repeatedly without much input from me beyond monitoring and occasional emptying. I present to you...the Bucket Of Death, actually found on a different forum. Slapped this together from a bucket, a soda bottle, a wooden dowel and some bits. The bottle spins freely so the mouse has trouble staying on it and the key ingredients are the peanut butter for attracting and the windshield washer fluid for...er, dispatching. Works, so I made a smaller Jar Of Death to go in the parked camper.

I figured out my ants are the liquid diet version as some don't eat solid food, they gorged on one liquid trap and ignored 4 others.
May have killed a hundred or two but I think they are regrouping.

You will get some new hatchings...they will follow the trail back to the bait, leave the bait where it is, and they will bring it back to the nest to feed the others until there just aren’t any ants left ...keep the bait fresh...the Queen was killed in the first round...she isn’t making anymore babies...

My "Bucket-o-Death" consists of a Homer bucket, 1/2 full of water, a 2"-wide plank from the ground to the rim, and enough sunflower seeds to float on the surface of the water. From the top of the ramp, it looks solid to the mice, and they... *snicker* ...take a leap of faith. I've been known to get several mice in a night, and maybe a chipmunk or two. The bonus is, the neighbor's dog does his rounds in the morning, and will eat all of the mice, AND the seeds, and drink some water, leaving me with a fresh bucket.

I put some 8 speed Campagnolo Ergos on my Super Le Tour last night.
I had planned on replacing the handlebar with something sleeved, but had a very unpleasant surprise when I discovered that the original stem not only has the old 21.15 mm quill, but the clamp appears to be 25mm!
Very strange that Schwinn decided to go with the French standard for this bike, but oh well.
A little frustrating, but also kind of interesting I suppose.

I've been bitten by the classic British 3 speed Roadster style bikes. One of my recent refurbs is this 1956 Raleigh Industries Nottingham Gazelle. 26" wheels, early (non-original) 333 Shimano 3 speed hub and Brooks B72 saddle. Here are some pics. Last pic is recently finished bike-this is a great rider!!

Got all the parts I need to build up a Tange 4130 for a friend of mine. It'll be suitable for light to moderate touring. Mostly old Suntour components including Suntour ower Ratchet downtube shifters, front derailleur, rear derailleur and 5-speed freewheel. On 27" wheels.
