I have 4 office rooms plus a warehouse. The room behind the window opening is the actual office area. The rest of the rooms are storage/extra rooms. They have bike stuff in them also. 
It's very nice. I've got to get the main bike room organized, as well as the one with the blue Lejeune.
After the headset servicing, I am working on the Team Miyata and the green Mixte for my son and daughter respectively. They are tired of walking the neighborhood and want to bike instead. I rotate rides on the various bikes. At the moment, I am having to rob parts to get bikes ready for the wife and kids.

With the aero levers, limited housing, we have to remove the front brake cable. Turn the fork for easier access. 5 mm Allen head is the size.

How to mechanic headset bearing service continued.
Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the headset lock ring. The ruler on top of the wrench shows 11/16" or metric equivalent. Use a 6mm Allen wrench to loosen the handlebar stem bolt. Pull the stem out and move to the side. You might have to put some penetrate to loosen the stem. Don't use PB Blaster. This headset has rubber seals. The PB might eat them up. WD40 will work.

Remove the keyed washer and the top part of the headset. Take a picture for future bearing placement reference. Remove the bearings and put them in cleaning solution.

Next, hold the fork/wheel and flip the bike over. Remove the wheel, then the fork. Take a pic of the bottom bearings configuration for future reference.
BTW, fork is stamped with Tange 5L Made in Japan.

Now to the fixed cup. If the fixed cup is on the bicycle, getting the loose bearings back in is no easy task. Here is how to do it. Lay the bike on it's drive side with the open/adjustable side up. Use a plastic knife or something and grease up the bearing race going in through the top opening. Take the bearings one at a time and push them up through the opening in the fixed cup into the greasy bearing race. Use a screwdriver in the other hand from the top to help guide them into the race. For caged bearings, put them in from the top. Note the correct alignment.
Now to the fixed cup. If the fixed cup is on the bicycle, getting the loose bearings back in is no easy task. Here is how to do it. Lay the bike on it's drive side with the open/adjustable side up. Next, clean the cups/bearing races/bearings and check them for pitting, brinelling, etc. Be careful with the seals. If the seals are shot you can find an O-ring that will work. In fact, one of my vendors makes one that works. Contact me if you can't find a replacement.

If you have some bare/rusty spots on the bottom of your frame now is a good time to to touch them up with rust stopping primer.

Hopefully, the cups/bearings are in good condition. Time for reassembly. Grease up the lower bearing cup. Insert the bearings using the pic you took as reference. Put some more grease on top. Insert the fork.

Take the expansion bolt out of your stem and clean it. Clean the stem also. Put some grease on the threads of the expansion bolt and reinstall.

Similar to the BB bearings you want the magic point with some bearing load. Not loose, but moving freely. When you find it, tighten the lock ring down while holding the upper cup steady. This is tricky because the tool for the cup has to be thin. I am using a big pair of vice grip needle nose pliers with thin fingers.

After getting the lock ring tightened, align/adjust your bars and tighten your expansion bolt. You are done!
We still have to do the hub bearing service and some other minor services. I'll do the hub bearings in a day or two.

Nice write up Pat!
I would also add that you cover the stem with grease where it will be inside the fork steer tube. this will help prevent the dreaded "Stuck Stem" syndrome.

Well, I had to service the hubs on the Miyata, so I decided to do the ones on the project loaner IM. Good news and bad news. The bad news first. One of the hub cones is pitted. It will need to be replaced as well as the bearings.
The good news a cone is pitted. The cones and bearings need to be replaced. We get to go through the process of finding the replacement parts and learn from it. When I get the parts in I will finish and post the procedure.

Can I swap my 6-speed MF 6208 (13-21) for a 7 speed freewheel? Maybe something with a bit more low end?
Would the width be the same, or close? Will my 600 shifters have enough clicks? (Front is a 53/42 Biopace.)

You can get a 7 speed freewheel, but wait until someone answers your question about indexed shifters. All I run are friction shifters. I don't know about the indexed mode. Let me summon one of the experts. rccardr
